Matthew Jay Povich Co-founded a Business – Facts about Maury Povich's Son
Though Matthew Jay Povich was raised by parents who thrived in the entertainment industry and were incredibly committed to being ever-present in his life, he never followed in their footsteps. He successfully trudged his own into the fishing business and is now building a home.
Matthew Jay Povich may have been born to other people, but he is known as the adoptive son of former anchor and TV host Connie Chung and Maury Povich. He entered the couple's lives at just the right time, as his mom was ready to take on motherhood.
Though the story of his adoption reached the press, Maury and Connie ensured they protected him against the spotlight. Still, from their interviews over the years, it's clear they developed a loving bond with the now-20-something-year-old. Matthew now holds his own as a business owner, and he has found love.

Matthew's Parents Tried for a Long Time to Have a Child
Connie and Maury adopted Matthew in 1995, just hours following his birth. The couple had made years-long efforts to have a child, including in vitro fertilization — the same way Elon Musk's children were conceived — but were unfortunately never successful.
Although they had tried to keep those matters private, they were publicized without their consent. Speaking to Mamalode about having children with her husband, Connie said she had never put a stamp on when it would happen, but the desire had always been there.
And when it was finally realized, she felt "the timing was remarkable!" Connie had just lost her dream job as a co-anchor on CBS Evening News when "the very next day," she and Maury received a call informing them that their adoption had gone through.
Connie was ecstatic about motherhood and soon left her career behind to be a stay-at-home mom. Recalling Matthew's early years, she said he was a non-fussy baby, describing him as a "super eater and sleeper." He also spent his first Christmas with his new parents the year he was adopted.
His mom returned to work for a while before staying home again from his pre-teens onward. By the time Matthew was a full adolescent, Connie had reached her mid-60s. She remarked that she never imagined settling down would occur that late in her life, but she was more than happy with how things turned out.
Matthew Jay Povich Was a Professional Fisherman
According to his Facebook bio, Matthew attended Allen-Stevenson School and Riverside Country School. He also studied at the University of New Hampshire until 2018. In 2022, his dad revealed that he once tried his hand at being a commercial tuna fisherman, but "it proved too difficult for him."
In 2020, Matthew then co-founded Carbon Fishing, a machine store specializing in offshore fishing components. But apart from building his career as a successful "blue-collar guy," as Maury described him, Matthew has a girlfriend and has been building a home close to his father's in Montana.
Matthew Jay Povich Has Two Sisters
Matthew's siblings were born from his dad's previous marriage to Phyllis Minkoff. His sister, Amy J. Povich, is an actress who married a doctor, Dr. David Bernard Agus, in 1994, at her father's home. Much like actors Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Molly Shannon, and several others, Amy studied acting, attaining a master's degree in the art form from Yale University.
Matthew's other sister, Susan Povich, is also an entrepreneur in the sea world. She works as the Chief Lobsterrette at a restaurant she founded in April 2021, Red Hook Lobster Pound. In addition, Susan works at the Rockaway Clam Bar in Queens, New York, though it's unclear which position she holds at that establishment.
