The same hurtful comments about his body were directed at his mother too. One commenter said, "He likes food like his mom!!" followed by a similar demeaning critique, "Fat as your mommy… no talent."
Van Halen dealt with a lot of pain after losing his father, someone he looked up to and who inspired his current career path.

However, their marriage ended in 2007, and the two continued to have a healthy co-parenting relationship until Eddie died in October 2020 from throat cancer. The 65-year-old had Bertinelli and Van Halen by his side when he passed, but his death left his son distraught.
After his death, Van Halen was the one to announce his father's passing. He acknowledged how painful the loss was but said, "He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off stage was a gift."

At the end of his message, Van Halen said he did not think he will ever fully recover from his loss. "I love you so much, pops," he added.
A month after the legendary singer died, Van Halen shared another tribute to his father. He candidly expressed how he constantly thought about his old man.
He continued to list things he missed doing with him, which included listening to music, talking, laughing, and simply being in his father's presence.
On the first anniversary of his father's death, Van Halen shared another honest message about how he was coping. He acknowledged how hard his father fought cancer, but losing him felt unfair.
"I'm not ok. I don't think I'll ever be ok. There's so much I wish I could show you." he expressed. Again the musician wished he could get a hug from his old man. "I miss you so much it hurts," he added.
Although it has been difficult for Van Halen without his father, he does his best to make him proud and keep his musical legacy alive.
What Does Wolf Do for a Living, and Who Is His Beloved?
Van Halen followed in his father's footsteps and built a successful career as a musician. The 32-year-old even reached the milestone of being nominated for a Grammy.
He was recognized for his songwriting talent on the song "Distance," which he wrote for his band Mammoth WVH. Bertinelli was beyond proud of her son and said the only other person who would have exceeded that pride was her late ex-husband.
Bertinelli was happy that her son got recognized for his writing skills because she believed it was the most challenging part of making music. She was also over the moon that he was respected by his peers in the industry.
Even Van Halen said every accomplishment he reached was to honor his father and that his future achievements will be to keep his father's legacy alive and to make him proud.
One video that Bertinelli shared from Van Halen's concert was met with excitement and positivity by her fans, who thought her son was just as talented as his father. "Wow, he's as good as his father was!" remarked a commenter.
The father and son not only shared their love for rock music, but they also resemble each other, something fans could not stop pointing out. "Your son looks so much like his dad in this photo," said a netizen.
Although things between Bertinelli and her son's father did not work out, the actress still had a close relationship with him. She even shared a picture of them on Instagram and captioned it with a white heart.
Meanwhile, Van Halen is not only making strides in his career but in his personal life too. The 32-year-old got engaged to Andria Allsop, a software engineer. Another milestone that Bertinelli was proud of.
