She graduated Cum Laude in 2011 from the University of Mississippi with a B.A.J., Broadcast Journalism, French. While at the university, she was an excellent student who received the 2009 Student Achievement Award in French.

In addition to her studies, she partook in several activities and was in societies such as the Society of Professional Journalists, where she was the chapter's 2010 president.

Lopez was also a part of the Phi Kappa Phi, March of Dimes, Kappa Delta, and more. In 2011, while still studying at the University of Mississippi, she attended the Institut Supérior du Commerce in Paris, where she filmed a documentary on the adverse impacts of tourism on permanent citizens.

She also volunteers with RAINN, where she has been the Day Director since September 2011, the event coordinator for March of Dimes since September 2010, and the Region 4 Director and Atlanta Chapter President for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists since 2015.
