It's been over twenty years since Joan Lunden and Jeff Konigsberg said "I do," and the former ABC news anchor took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion. However, it has not always been smooth sailing for the couple, who opened up about their difficult pregnancy journey.

In a recent Instagram post, Lunden took a trip down memory lane and shared a throwback of her and her husband on their wedding day. "He had me at hello!! It was on this day in 2000 that I married Jeff Konigsberg, and he has kept that exuberant smile on my face ever since. I consider myself very lucky to have found such a wonderful person to share my life," she captioned.

In 2022, Lunden, Konigsberg, and their children wore smiles in a throwback photo Lunden shared in honor of her youngest children leaving the nest and heading off to college. "With my Max and Kate off in college this year, it's nice to look at #Throwbacks like these of when my youngest were so small," Lunden shared.

Lunden had already welcomed three children from her first marriage when she met Konigsberg, who was ten years her senior and without kids.

"I fell in love and married a woman who had had children and was older. And I didn't want that to prevent me from having the life that was important to me. And fortunately, Joan shares that dream. And together, we made a family," he said.

However, their journey to growing their family was not easy, as Lunden struggled to become pregnant. After five years of trying to conceive without any luck, the couple turned to in-vitro fertilization. But their five attempts also failed. Lunden and Konigsberg were adamant they did not want to adopt as they wanted to have a "biological connection" to their child. After opting for surrogacy, the couple welcomed twins, Max and Kate, in 2003.

Their twins are a part of Lunden's seven children in total. She welcomed three girls during her first marriage: Jamie in 1980, Lindsay in 1983, and Sarah in 1992. After Max and Kate were born, Lunden and Konigsberg received the surprise of their lives after Lunden fell pregnant with another set of twins, Kimberly and Jack, in 2005. "It's energizing me," Joan Lunden said about mothering her big family.
