- The actor opened up about how he fell in love with his wife and defended their age gap.
- Jackman spoke out about gay rumors and extolled his life partner on their 27th wedding anniversary.
Hugh Michael Jackman's wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, was recently slammed for her appearance during their beach getaway only days before celebrating 27 years of marital bliss. When Jackman met Furness, they were both single and came from single-parent families.
"The Wolverine" star said he was happy in his singlehood, having survived a difficult relationship all through his drama school. Shedding more light on his student years, Jackman shared that he had only 120 bucks a week until he turned 26. But everything changed for him when he met Furness.
Furness and Jackman first crossed paths in 1995 on the set of the Australian drama series, "Corelli." About meeting his future spouse, Jackman said, "It was 10 times better than my single life."
Jackman and Furness make an adorable couple, but their relationship wasn't always so smooth-sailing.
The "X-Men" alum noted that he was stunned by Furness' beauty, humor, and liveliness. "And she had a confidence in herself. I had a massive crush on her instantly," he added.
The couple exchanged wedding vows less than a year after their first meeting on April 11, 1996, in Melbourne, Australia. They have shared many beautiful pictures from their big day over the years to honor their love and commitment to each other.
Following their marriage, the couple adopted two kids—they welcomed their son, Oscar, into their hearts and home in 2000, followed by their daughter, Ava, who became a part of their family in 2005.

When discussing his relationship dynamics and parenting, Jackman said after falling in love with Furness, he knew they could work out anything. After embracing parenthood, the Australian couple, who had different ideas about being a parent, suddenly saw their pasts converging.
"The Logan" actor said he and his wife never had discussions about how to raise their kids before they adopted. However, Jackman and Furness agreed to love each other and avoid arguments, knowing they would be able to figure out the rest.
After only two weeks of knowing Furness, the "Real Steel" star said he knew he wanted to stay with her for the rest of his life.

Why Was Hugh Jackman's Wife Criticized?
The Aussie couple rang in their Easter weekend by enjoying a swim on their day out at Hampton Beach in New York. They were spotted taking a dip on a rather chilly day, with Jackman putting his gentlemanliness on full display as he helped his wife come out of the water.
Furness, 67, opted for a casual look, wearing a full-sleeved black shirt with matching bikini bottoms. 54-year-old Jackman, on the other hand, decided to skip his shirt, showing off his toned body, and donned a pair of board shorts in different shades of blue.

Jackman was pictured holding onto his beloved wife's arm, helping her exit the waves as they toweled themselves and walked toward the shore. Furness looked warm and happy wearing her glasses, with her blonde hair tied up in a loose knot.
After seeing photos of the Australian pair's beach getaway on social media, many people criticized Furness, deeming her too old for Jackman. "She looks like his mother........time for an upgrade Hughie!!" wrote one user.

A second commenter said, "I thought it was grandma (sic)." A third user added, "Looks like his mum." Meanwhile, another fan took a dig at the couple's happiness and love and expressed, "Look loved up? he looks like he's trying to Chuck her to sharks (sic)."
But it seems the negative and rude remarks don't bother Jackman at all nor affect his love for Furness. The Hollywood star has often confessed his true feelings and appreciation for his lovely wife.

How Did Hugh Jackman Defend His Wife and Show His Love to Her?
Jackman and Furness make an adorable couple, but their relationship wasn't always so smooth-sailing. They endured multiple hurdles initially, with many criticizing them for their 13-year age gap.
Furness became increasingly concerned with the growing criticism and worried about what the future held for her and Jackman. But there was still a lot more that the pair went through and overcame together.

In November 2011, the "Beautiful" star recalled hearing whispers that their marriage was a sham and her husband was gay. Furness said she was constantly subjected to rude comments, all because she had married the actor who played "Wolverine."
In February 2013, "The Front Runner" actor, who had been married for almost 17 years then, said he knew the gossip and rumors about his sexuality impacted Furness since she spent more time online than him. "Just recently, it bugs her. She goes: 'It's big. It's everywhere!'" he recollected.
The duo opened up about their experience a few months later and shut down all rumors. In a joint interview in July 2013, Jackman rejected all speculations about him being gay and admitted that those rumors were indirectly aimed at his wife, who's 13 years his senior in age. He expressed:
"If I was [gay], I would be. It's to me not the most interesting thing about a person anyway, but I do get frustrated for Deb because I see Deb go, 'Ah, this is crazy.'"
While commenting on her marriage being dubbed a sham, Furness mentioned it was both baseless and offensive. She and Jackman also pointed to his character as Peter Allen on Broadway's "A Boy from Oz" as a basis for the rumors.
An upset Furness said she found it absurd and annoying for people to rest their opinions on something completely untrue. As of present, the husband-wife duo continue to go strong in their relationship and never miss a chance to dote on each other.
On April 11, Hugh confessed his love by sharing a romantic post on social media for his and Furness' 27th wedding anniversary. The special post included a sweet photo of Furness and Jackman, where they were all smiles as she rested her head on his shoulder.
The "The Greatest Showman" alum expressed that he loved his wife immensely and was glad they had created a beautiful life and family together. The caption read in part:
"Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart."
Unbothered by naysayers and deeply in love, Jackman and Furness continue to serve relationship goals to people within and outside Hollywood!
