The writer trained himself to be good at the craft by watching television daily and studying comedians' techniques. Following his stint in his television special in 1987, Jerry and his fellow comedian Larry David created the sitcom "Seinfeld" for NBC.

Jerry, who is married to author Jessica Seinfeld with whom he shares three kids, was born Jerome Allen Seinfeld in 1954 to parents Betty and Kalman Seinfeld. His sister Liebling arrived two years prior.

Carolyn Liebling's Parents Were Both Orphans

Carolyn Liebling is Jerry's older sister and was born in 1952. Betty, who had a difficult pregnancy, gave birth to her daughter in her late thirties. She knew her biological clock was ticking after marrying Kalman and wanted to start a family immediately as a newlywed. Moreso, she had been bounced from orphanages to foster homes as a child and wanted to have a stable family of her own.

The mother of two endured another high-risk pregnancy with her second child Jerry, but he was born healthy. Jerry and Liebling were raised in a Jewish family, just like fellow Hollywood star Barbra Streisand.

Jerry recalled during a December 2012 interview, "Went to temple, kept kosher, two sets of dishes." The producer, who grew up in Long Island, in Massapequa, revealed his parents' parenting techniques during an October 2020 interview:

"Complete neglect. Absolute, total neglect. It worked for me. It made me very independent. They were both orphans. So, they had a natural independence."

When asked what impact he believed his parents' background had in their lives, the television star said, "It was fantastic. Complete self-reliance, that was expected. Now, you know you, you end up having to raise yourself in a lot of ways."

Since the iconic A-lister's parents grew up as orphans, a genealogical expert in the Syrian Jewish community, Sarina Roffe, has been able to trace their descendants. When examining the Dayan family tree, Roffe pointed out in 2012 that Jerry, whose mom was a Syrian Jew, is "a descendant of King David."

Sadly, Jerry's mother passed away in 2014, while his father died in 1985 in Florida. Per his death certificate, he worked in the sign business.

Carolyn Liebling Was Her Brother's Business Manager

Meanwhile, Kalman and Betty's only daughter Carolyn Liebling leads a very private life. However, she has been involved in her famous brother's life by being his business manager.

In addition, the two siblings have decided to keep their family legacy alive by founding the Seinfeld Family Foundation, which gives scholarships to deserving students.

Jerry and his family established The Seinfeld Scholarships in 2000. The four-year scholarships help New York City public school students attend the college of their choice after graduating high school.

These scholarships were founded after Jerry visited LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. According to one of the foundations' beneficiaries, the scholarships are "under the leadership of Jerry's sister, Carolyn Liebling."

Per the beneficiary, the foundation created a fund to award scholarships to 14 brilliant high school students. So far, The Seinfeld Family Foundation has provided scholarships to over 90 public school students from New York City.

Jerry studied communications and theater at Queens College, City University of New York. Shortly after he graduated in 1976, he launched his stand-up comedy career.
