Mikey Williams started playing basketball at a young age. By the time he got to seventh grade, he had begun ranking as one of the best basketball players in his age group.

While in high school in 2021, he had already made a name for himself and had over 3 million followers on Instagram. His game was going strong, and he had several options for his future laid out before him.

Mikey could have chosen to go overseas and become a professional after high school, played for Professional Collegiate League, the NBA's G League, or even go straight to the league.

However, out of ten school offers, he chose to attend the University of Memphis and has been signed on to the Memphis Tigers to play under the team's head coach, Penny Hardaway. The talented basketball player had ranked #34 on ESPN's 2023 recruiting class list.

Mikey is not the only talented basketballer in his family. His father, Mahlon, who attended South Bay high school, was seen as one of the best basketball players the school had ever had.

He had a good run and was set to attend Sweetwater High for his senior year, but he missed 13 games because he was ineligible as he had trouble keeping his grades up and did not have the required 2.0 grade-point average. That sent his playing career downward as colleges suddenly backed off his case.

He went on to attend United States International University before transferring to San Diego City College for one year and then to Baker University, where he ruptured a disc. However, he learned the importance of having a good education and earned a bachelor's in criminal justice and a master's in human behavior and sports psychology from National University.

After his master's education, Mahlon returned to Sweetwater High to give back to the students. Even though he had a job at the San Diego Job Corps, he was also an instructor at his former high school for over a decade.

He moved on to run a girls' youth basketball program where he helped over 80 girls go to college on scholarships worth over 15 million dollars. In addition, he also coached the boys for ten years. As a young player, he was known for his athletic ability, keen eye for fashion, and unique style.

Unsurprisingly, their children have all followed in their athletic footsteps. Their first son, Mikey, is making waves as a basketball player, their daughter, Skye, is a nationally-ranked softball player with four scholarship offers as of 2021, and their last son Marvin is also a basketball player.

Mikey Williams' Dad Is Mentoring His Talented Son

Mahlon has always looked out for his son and is dedicated to Mikey's career. Even when his son was a baby, he knew the coach he wanted his son to play for and would not budge as his son's career began to manifest.

Before Mikey turned one, his mother had already given him a basketball, and as he grew, his father helped coach and mentor him. However, as he got older, he revealed that he is often compared with his father.

Mikey remarked that he had been told how his father was better than him at his age, but he appreciated his father's dedication. On the other hand, his father is proud of him. Mahlon said:

"Mikey is what I would have been if I had a father. He's more skilled now than I ever was in my high school career."

In 2018, Mikey was ranked number one in the Class of 2023 Naismith National Youth All-American Report even though he was just 13. He had outranked the likes of LeBron James Jr., the son of LeBron James, the professional basketball player.
