Hugh Jackman’s Wife, 67, Overshadows Her Grey-Bearded Man & Looks Different — She’s Suspected of 'Some Work Done'
- How did it happen that Hugh Jackman replaced his wife by now looking "too old" for her?
- The couple's 27 years of love started when Hugh earned only $120.
- Hugh was once suspected of being "gay" and his marriage to Deborra-Lee Furness a "sham."
On May 1, 2023, Hugh Jackman, 54, and his long-term wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, 67, caused a stir online with their attendance at this year's New York Met Gala. Furness drew all the attention as she flaunted her curves in a sexy outfit.
The Australian actress arrived dressed in a long black Tom Ford gown that hugged her body in all the right places. The sheer dress boasted a mirror design, and the star completed her look with black heels and diamond earrings. Her blonde hair was tied into a high ponytail, and she looked younger than her age with natural makeup.

Meanwhile, Jackman struck a dapper figure beside his wife, wearing a silk-collared black Zegna suit that fit him like a glove. He wore a white shirt underneath his suit jacket and added black shoes.
The pair held each other as they posed for photos on the red carpet, and Furness even looked into her husband's eyes at one point.

Jackman and his wife's Met Gala appearance occurred two weeks after they celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary, despite once facing rumors that Jackman was gay and their marriage was a lie. Social media users also noticed something specific about how the couple looked at the Met Gala.
How Hugh Replaced His Wife and Now Looks "Too Old" for Her
Jackman and his wife had spent years facing criticism for their age gap, with people highlighting how much younger Jackman looked next to his wife. However, it appeared the tables had turned, with Furness looking younger than Jackman now.

Critics previously hounded the couple for what appeared to be their unlikely pairing. A tweet back in February 2013 went as far as saying the actor looked "so hot" next to his wife who looked "like a fat Samurai warrior with a Barbie wig." That same year in December, someone else wrote on Twitter:
"The heck! Hugh Jackman's wife is so old. She looks like his mom."

Coinciding with their Met Gala appearance this year, Jackman proudly shared an image of the couple dressed to the nines for the occasion, taken at their home, and people couldn't believe how Furness had outshined her husband. One fan noted how the actor "look[ed] great" but felt "Deb steals the show!"

A second person described the couple as "Deb and her + 1!" before praising Jackman's wife, saying, "Holy moly Deb." Someone else hilariously asked who it was with Furness in the picture, and in a reshared Facebook post of the same image, a follower was impressed by how much weight the actress had lost, adding:
"I wouldn't have recognised her if she wasn't beside hubby."

Other comments were also directed at Jackman. One person observed Jackman "should definitely shave his beard" because he was "looking too old and grey" for his wife. Regardless, comments saying the couple looked "awesome" stood out.

Without referencing who they were talking about, a follower mentioned that "someone" looked "a bit different now." But a Facebook user who saw the picture of the Hollywood couple had some suspicions, saying:
"Deborra-Lee has had some work done."

Good or bad, the couple definitely drew attention that night, and rightfully so. More than their age gap and appearance, their 27-year love story is remarkable, and it began when Jackman wasn't a wealthy star yet.
27 Years of Love Started When Hugh Earned Only $120
On April 11, 2023, Jackman celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary with a throwback Instagram photo. He noted how he loved Furness "so much" and couldn't believe they'd reached the milestone.

The actor acknowledged their creation of a "beautiful family" and "life" together. He said Furness' spirit, humor, laughter, courage, generosity, cheekiness, and loyalty had been an "incredible gift" to him before declaring that he loved her with all his heart!
The "Logan" star first met his wife in 1995 on the set of "Correlli," her Australian television series, before tying the knot in April the following year. In 2017, Jackman said he knew from the onset that Furness was the one for him when they initially met.

During their 2018 "Aussies in Hollywood with Jenny Cooney" podcast interview, it was revealed that the actress wasn't looking for a relationship when she met Jackman. In fact, he had to talk her out of breaking up with him three weeks into their relationship!
Ironically, the actor was known for being indecisive but being with Furness was one of the things he was sure about. The way he was so in tune with the actress, he knew when she was trying to find ways to end things with him.
Both Australian stars were single when they met, and Jackman was happy being single after having left a complicated relationship while in drama school. Until age 26, he was a student living off $120 weekly until he met Furness.
In 2019, the "Wolverine" star [Hugh Jackman] addressed the rumors about his sexuality...
Jackman said being with Furness was ten times better than him being single because she was fun, beautiful, and had an irrepressible spirit and energy. Her confidence pulled in the star, and he grew a crush on her immediately!
Jackman described Furness as his opposite and a thrill to him, but when things started getting serious, he became terrified. Despite that, the duo got married, and Furness put her career on hold as Jackman's rose, but she eventually got back into it too.
"Gay" Hugh and His "Sham" of a Marriage with Deborra-Lee
In 2011, Furness revealed that she and Jackman balanced each other as he was younger but more mature than her. Addressing the online criticism she got about her looks, she said "carrying a little weight" was part of her "human experience."

There was also speculation about her husband's sexuality, with tweets dating back to 2017 saying Jackman was a "closet case who won't come out" and that he had a "long-term boyfriend and a sham marriage."
The actress said they just ignore the rumors, but she expressed sadness that people had nothing important to do besides gossiping about people they didn't know.

In 2019, the "Wolverine" star addressed the rumors about his sexuality, saying, "If I was [gay] I would be." He was frustrated for his wife because the speculations were lies. Furness found the whole thing "offensive" and said her husband would say so if he was gay.
The actress shared how stupid and annoying the rumor was because it gave the impression that the actor couldn't sing and dance while being straight. However, Jackman saw it as a compliment because such talks only happen when a star had reached a certain point in their career.
