11-year-old old Aderrien Murry called 911 trying to protect his mother Nakala Murry from a domestic disturbance. The father of one of his mother's other children arrived at their home at 4.00a.m, filled with anger. Out of fear for their safety, and knowing what the man was capable of from past experience, Nakala instructed Aderrien to call for help.

However, as events unfolded, Nakala found herself distraught because after calling for help, Aderrien ended up being shot by police and fighting for his life in the hospital.

Aderrien suffered severe injuries and post-traumatic disorder from the incident and is fighting a legal battle to get the officer in question fired.

Why Did Aderrien Get Shot?

When the responding police officer arrived, he already had his gun drawn, despite both Aderrien and Nakala telling him that the man in question did not have a gun.

The officer opened the door and yelled for everyone to come outside, but when an unarmed Aderrien emerged from the hallway, he shot the 11-year-old boy in the shoulder without assessing the situation.

The 11-year-old was utterly distraught and shocked, wondering why he was innocently targeted. As he lay on the ground, he profusely asked his mother, 'Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?'"

Aderrien's mother, who was outside when her son got shot, ran to him, and he said, "I do not want to die." Nakala assured him, "You are not going to die, baby. Just keep talking."

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, responsible for the investigation, reported that the 11-year-old suffered "significant injuries." His mother also explained that her son had a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, and a lacerated liver and had to be put on a ventilator.

The Murry family has been fighting for justice, and their lawyer Carlos Moore took the initiative to name the officer responsible for harming the innocent boy on Twitter. The officer, Greg Capers, was not fired but put on administrative leave, as per Carlos' tweet.

Moore has been advocating for justice for the Murry family. The lawyer wrote, "No child in Indianola should be in this terrifying condition because of the actions of someone who is allegedly the best cop in Indianola."

The entire incident was reportedly caught on camera, but the lawyer and family have not been given access to it for investigative purposes. The Murry family has filed a lawsuit asking for $5 million with multiple accounts, claiming excessive force, negligence, reckless endangerment, and civil assault and battery.

The Murry family is committed to doing everything possible to get justice for Aderrien. Nakala also said her son is determined to use his voice, and she will support him.

Where Did things End for the Murry family?

Moore is fighting for Officer Capers to be charged with attempted murder and for the Chief Police Ronald Sampson to be fired. The lawyer is also still fighting for the video footage to be released.

Meanwhile, Nakala and Aderrien are angry about the incident. When Aderrien was asked what he would tell Capers, he said, "I could have lost my life. All because of you. I want you terminated for what you did to me."

The young boy has lost his faith in the police, and his mother even wondered if it would have been better not to have called the police. Nakala said her son is constantly in fear and wakes up in the middle of the night wondering if there are people in their house.

Currently, Nakala is angry but grateful for her son's life. She expressed that she did not have the energy to be saddened over this but wanted something to be done for future generations to live without fear. "We just need peace. And we need justice," she said.

Aderrien's case is still under investigation. The agency responsible for the investigation released a statement saying, "Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General's Office."

However, the mayor, Ken Featherston, said an emergency meeting had been called to analyze the video footage. Additionally, Featherston wants further investigation to be done before the Chief of Police can be considered for firing. He claims facts still need to be confirmed; therefore, he wants a substantial file of evidence before making decisions.

As for the $5 million lawsuit, the mayor said he hopes to make "everyone whole" but that the city did not have $ 5 million in its accounts.

As for now, Capers is still under paid administrative leave, but Aderriene is determined to speak to the state and national lawmakers about his experience. With Nakala and Moore by his side, they are determined to find justice and hope the system will make the right decision to protect future generations.
