- A ten-year-old girl's mom found out her daughter was bullying children at school.
- When the mom found out, she immediately set a plan in motion to teach her daughter a lesson.
- The mom took her daughter to a store to buy clothes, but things weren't what they seemed, which resulted in an unusual punishment.
Both teachers and parents have been looking for a way to stop bullying in schools for ages, but the problem has always persisted. When Kaylee Lindstrom's stepmom found out her stepdaughter was the source of the problem, she decided to take action in an unconventional way, which sparked much criticism.
Kaylee's stepmom, Ally Olsen, found out that the ten-year-old girl was teasing other kids about the way they dressed at school. In an interview with ABC News, Ally mentioned that the usually fashion-aware Kaylee made numerous mean-spirited remarks about the way her classmates dressed.

When she heard about the way Kaylee was treating her peers, Ally was "shocked." Although Kaylee has always had a keen sense for fashion, her parents never wanted her to talk down to others, especially not about their choice of clothing. A teacher at Kaylee's school mentioned that the girl often teased one of her classmates.
Instead of buying Kaylee all the clothes she wanted, Ally told the girl to pick out the pieces of clothing she found the most revolting.
Kaylee's teacher mentioned that the ten-year-old would often make fun of one of her peers during break time, calling her a "slob" and a "sleaze" for the way she dressed. The bullying became insistent and recurred so often that Kaylee's classmate didn't want to go to school anymore, drawing the teacher's attention.

Although Ally isn't Kaylee's biological mother, the two reportedly share a close bond. So, when Ally found out about Kaylee's behavior, she knew she had to do something about the situation and teach her stepdaughter a lesson. That said, some disagreed with her methods.
What Unique Punishment Did the Stepmom Organize for the Girl?
Ally quickly thought up a plan to deter her stepdaughter from breaking down her fellow student's self-esteem. The stepmom mentioned that she wanted Kaylee to know how big of an effect her words were having and make the girl feel some empathy for the kid she was so relentlessly bullying.
Arriving at school, Kaylee was instantly ridiculed for the clothes she had on.
While considering the situation, Ally thought, "This is a perfect moment for us to really teach her, this is right, this is wrong." She wanted Kaylee to consider the repercussions of her actions in the future, showing her to think things through before acting irrationally.

The only way Ally saw fit to teach Kaylee not to look down on others was by putting her in their shoes. So, the stepmom took her stepdaughter to a thrift store to pick out some clothes. Being the fashionista she is, Kaylee enjoyed the outing, but she had no idea what was in store for her the very next day.
Instead of buying Kaylee all the clothes she wanted, Ally told the girl to pick out the pieces of clothing she found the most revolting. Without knowing her stepmom's intentions, Ally complied, choosing the worst dresses in the store and openly ridiculing them as she presented them to Ally.
The pair bought all the clothes Kaylee picked out, and the following day, the girl woke up to a big surprise. Ally was standing ready with the clothes Kaylee had picked out, telling her she would be wearing one of the dresses to school that day.

Much to her chagrin, Kaylee wore one of the dresses to school. In fact, Kaylee also wore an ugly dress to school the following day. Although Ally admitted that the punishment was harsh, she hoped to show Kaylee how the other girl felt when she was being teased.
What Happened after Kaylee Entered School in an Ugly Dress?
Considering how frequently Ally's stepdaughter teased her classmate about what she wore, Kaylee wasn't thrilled to be wearing the dress to school. Arriving at school, Kaylee was instantly ridiculed for the clothes she had on.
One person reportedly commented, "Her mom is the reason she's a bully. Look at the way her mom treats her."
Ally confessed that Kaylee's classmates had teased her, just as she had teased the other girl in her school. For two days, Kaylee endured being mocked by her peers, hating every second she had to wear the dresses she despised. Despite the teasing, Kaylee learned a valuable lesson.

Kaylee opened up about the experience, confessing that it was terrible to wear the dresses and keep a straight face while her peers called her names. Nonetheless, Kaylee admitted that she learned a lesson that she would not have retained had it been presented in any other way. She said about wearing the clothes:
"I died. I did."
Kaylee also said she cried when she first saw herself in the dress. The entire experience was terrible, but the girl soon empathized with the classmate she had bullied. After two days of wearing ugly dresses, Kaylee apologized to the girl she had bullied.

Luckily, the girl accepted Kaylee's heartfelt apology, and the two quickly started bonding, becoming best friends. Soon after the entire ordeal was over, the two girls were the best of friends. Kaylee also spoke out against bullying, saying, "It's stupid and it's mean. It hurts [other people]."
Why Was the Stepmother's Punishment Criticized?
Even though Kaylee confessed the experience taught her a lesson she would never forget, many people criticized Ally for how she dealt with the problem. Even some experts noted that "humiliation punishment" could be detrimental to their self-esteem.
One child psychologist mentioned that the humiliation could teach a child that they are worth less than their peers, which could have a lasting impact on their lives forward. Nonetheless, Kaylee's parents are happy with how things played out.
But other people on the internet also found the punishment harsh. According to Fox13, people took to social media to share their opinions on the matter. One person reportedly commented, "Her mom is the reason she's a bully. Look at the way her mom treats her."

However, others praised Ally for her decision, writing, "Empathy is literally having the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes. This was a practical way to teach true empathy." Ally and Kaylee's dad agree, saying they're glad Kaylee learned to be kinder.
