The star spoke more about aging in an interview the following month. She defended aging and delved into plastic surgery, something many celebrities undertook to try to look younger as they aged.

What Did Sigourney Say about Getting Older and Plastic Surgery?

In June 2023, it was revealed that Weaver had been in television, theater, and film for almost 50 years. Her longevity in the entertainment industry was partly attributed to how she'd handled her career.

The actress explained that she never wanted to sit in "an ivory tower" while waiting for a significant film role to find her once every five-year cycle. She felt that was a boring way to live because she wanted to be out there working with people from different generations.

The celebrity said that was what had always been so fun about her career. For her recent role in "Avatar: The Way of Water" and in the franchise's first installment, she spent hours submerged in tanks. The exercise was done so she could learn to keep her mouth and eyes open while underwater.

Weaver pushed herself for the role, not wanting people to think she was too old and couldn't do it. The actress knew it was uncommon to see film characters older than 70, joking that she could be the most senior person on set!

However, she had no qualms about her face showing how old she was. The star confessed to liking aging because it was an interesting transition, but she didn't believe it was attractive and found it scary to have a taut face when you had a 65-year-old's body.

She revealed how her mother was beautiful but never felt pushed to do plastic surgery. The celebrity said her parent thought the only way to grow old was "gracefully," and she felt the same.

Weaver felt people changed themselves because they looked back and tried to remain young instead of focusing on moving forward. One person who loved her for who she was was her husband.

How Did Sigourney Meet Her Husband, and What Type of Family Do They Have?

In 2015, Weaver revealed that she'd met her husband of 39 years, Jim Simpson, in 1983 during the Williamstown Theatre Festival. At the time, she was starring in a Pinter play, and Jim directed nonequity groups in different plays.

Her future husband also supplemented his income by working at the Zoo bar as a bartender. The actress visited the bar with Christopher Walken, and in the dark establishment, she took her shoes off to take to the dance floor.

Jim saved her shoes by placing them in a pipe in the bar, forcing the star to talk to him. When she approached him, she asked him where her shoes were and noticed that he was cute before thinking:

"'Well, he's going to be a bachelor for many years. I can see that.'"

Weaver didn't think much about Jim because she had a boyfriend then, but within six months of their meeting, she'd invited him to a party. After the event, the bartender stayed late to help her put away the decorations.

The actress boldly asked him out on a dinner date, and three months later, they'd decided to tie the knot! The couple had an age difference of seven years, with the celebrity being the older one, and she was around 34, and he was maybe 27 when they first met.

In 1990, Weaver and Jim welcomed their only child, Charlotte Simpson. The actress has since revealed that "Char" was non-binary and used they/them pronouns, and in March 2023, they were around 32.

Charlotte had acting roles in the past, but since 2013, they had yet to appear in anything new. Jim's child preferred life out of the spotlight, and it wasn't clear what they did for a living.

Some reports said the star and her husband were grandparents, while others contradicted the claims. In a past interview, Weaver shared her secrets to a successful marriage, firstly by noting that it was true that whatever was wrong in a current relationship would rear its ugly head in the next one.

So she advocated for sticking it out and working things out with the "great guy" you found. The celebrity also shared that her relationship with the stage director worked because they weren't too well matched.

When Charlotte was conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF), it caused temporary issues in their marriage. Weaver said the procedure took a toll on her body and marriage because she was always looking at clocks and other things, but luckily, they managed to overcome the challenges.
