In the final leg of the video, Griffin revealed her new voice, which sounded deep but more prominent than her voice after her tumor removal. The comedian had the surgery in August 2021, then in December, she made it clear that she would do anything to get her voice back.
Kathy Griffin's Fight with Cancer
Griffin was on "The View" and opened up about the first time she was told she had cancer. It was bizarre to her that she had never smoked but had developed a lung tumor.
But looking back at the way the doctor broke the news to her, she found the whole encounter a bit comical. Griffin remembered the doctor flipping through her file and telling her about some of the good results from her blood work, then mentioning she had cancer in passing.
In her mind, the words "you have cancer" would have driven her into a spiral, and for the most part, she wondered how one should react to such news. She disclosed that it took a while to digest the news.
Now that she's a cancer survivor, Griffin said she felt happier and found herself laughing at everything. The experience also left her with an unusual obsession. She joked that she was obsessed with getting scanned and would buy an MRI scan if she could.
This is not the only big thing the comedian has survived; she opened up about her pill addiction in June 2020. While the vice had been going on for a while, she only realized it was getting out of control when she kicked her husband out of her house and wanted to take her own life.
Eventually, she admitted she had a problem and asked him to take her to the hospital. Once she was on the other side, she confessed it was scarier than finding out she had cancer.
Kathy Griffin and Randy Bick's Love Story
Griffin and marketing executive Randy Bick started dating in 2012. The couple split for five months in 2018 and got back together in 2019. After ten years of being together, they decided to tie the knot on January 1, 2020, in a ceremony officiated by comedian Lily Tomlin.
The actress shared a video from the big day and said, "Happy New Year — and, surprise! We're getting married!" The comedian said the ceremony was only 14 minutes long, but she was excited to share a 75-second video with her fans.
She wore a white simple silk dress with her short orange hair curled up and held a bouquet of red roses. The dress was special because Bick specially chose it for the ceremony. It was also the same dress Griffin wore on their first date.
Bick looked put together in a black suit, with red roses tucked into his pocket and his hair slick back.
The couple's relationship started as a one-night stand but flourished into a meaningful lifelong companionship. Griffin is highly grateful to her husband for the life they've built together and for being there to save her life in a moment that would have taken a turn for the worst. He was the one to drive her to the hospital to get help for her suicidal thoughts.
In a candid video shared on her Instagram, Griffin opened up about her struggles, recalling how she once had an anxiety attack before a dinner party she needed to attend. She also spoke about voice recovery surgery and said she was happy her voice was coming back. Then the actress continued to do her make-up as she spoke about various topics.
Some fans reacted to the video, saying they thought something was wrong with Griffin. Some called her "possessed," others brought up her pill addiction, while several said she looked old.
However, some fans empathized with the actress and started sharing their panic attack experiences, telling her she was beautiful and encouraging her to keep going.
Griffin has survived multiple challenges in her life but continues to be open about the rollercoasters she has endured to help other people who might be dealing with similar health issues. Now the singer can get back to showing off her talents on stage with a new voice.
