Al Pacino Fought for Twins with Ex Who Used Kids like 'Hostages' & at 83 Is Seen with His Grown Son
- Legendary Hollywood actor Al Pacino is the father of twins who he had with his ex-partner Beverly D'Angelo.
- It was reported that following his split from D'Angelo, the ex-couple fought over their twin son, and Pacino's lawyer expressed that she had used the kids as "hostages" in their battle.
- However, the ex-couple worked out a way to co-parent, and Pacino was recently spotted with his son.
Al Pacino is widely known for his triumphant success as one of Hollywood's most formidable and accomplished actors. Outside of his incredible career, he is known for becoming a father at an age that would be considered by most as elderly. Of all his children, two are his twins - Olivia and Anton James Pacino, whom he shares with his ex-partner, American actress Beverly D'Angelo.
The twins were born in January 2001, and Pacino was 62 at the time. Concerning becoming a dad for the second and third time as an elder, he reported being reinvigorated with an energy he had long forgotten about since the birth of his first kid. Though the ex-couple never married, D'Angelo, who was 49 when she gave birth, reported being more than willing to have kids with the star even though they had only known each other for approximately three months.

How Al Pacino Fought for His Twins
Two years following the birth of their twins, Pacino and D'Angelo decided to call it quits and ended their relationship. Soon after the dissolution of their relationship, a custody battle over their twins bitterly ensued. During the back-and-forth battle in court, Pacino's lawyer, Martin Wasser, had claimed:
"[Beverly] continues to use the kids in a way that almost makes them hostages. We sometimes joke that we are dealing with a baby rental company. For every extra hour Al wants to spend with the children; she wants to be paid more money."

Dan Klores, D'Angelo's lawyer, countered the statement made by Wasser by addressing his supposed reprehensible conduct as a lawyer. Klores went further to say that Wasser had used unsavory tactics, which included slandering D'Angelo's name as a mother in order to state his case.
The court proceedings were initiated by Pacino's joint custody filing and catapulted by D'Angelo's wanting to move her kids back to Los Angeles. Thus, Pacino had also cut off her $50,000 a month in an unofficial palimony suit. The "Violent Night" actress claimed the move was necessary for her career.
In addition to that claim, her legal team had also painted Pacino to be never interested in caring for his kids or spending more than a few hours at a time with them. However, the judge overseeing their case ruled in favor of Pacino being granted overnight visitations because she had reported there not to be any health or safety concerns prohibiting the request.

In the end, an out-of-court settlement was reached in addition to the $93,000 Pacino paid to D'Angelo monthly. Pacino then structured his work schedule in such a way that would flexibly accommodate him spending as much time with his kids as possible.
Since the rocky custody battle, Pacino and D'Angelo have become amicable co-parents who are focused on keeping a positive relationship with each other for the sake of their twins. In a 2017 interview with Closer Weekly magazine, D'Angelo confirmed that she and Pacino worked past their drama and became friends who created a new narrative to move on from their past and co-parent their kids to the best of their abilities:
"The key thing is creating a new history and moving on from whatever dissolved that relationship to a new one of co-parenting. The most important thing I've learned is how vital acceptance is. We all have a desire to change things that we don't like, but you can't change another person, [and] you have to accept differences and all the things that led to a breakup in a way that allows you to move forward."
As reported by D'Angelo herself, though she and Pacino's split ended in a nasty custody battle over their twins, the "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" star admitted that the whole ordeal was a tough learning experience. The actress disclosed that during the time one gets pregnant, it may become easy to lose sight of the imperative perspective that the overall goal is to create a family.
In that conception of a family, the responsibility of a parent then becomes embedded in securing the stability of a child's future. The aforementioned realization then became paramount to how Pacino and D'Angelo then managed to work out an amicable custody agreement and remain as co-parents to Olivia and Anton James.
Despite going through a tumultuous custody battle over his twins, Pacino and D'Angelo, fortunately, came to an amicable agreement to co-parent successfully.
