Celine Dion, the famous singer, has been battling a rare autoimmune neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), which stiffens muscles and severely limits movement. The musician has been candid with her fans about her health, updating them on the disease's progression and what it means for her career.

Although the disease seems to be developing without letting up, Dion hasn't thrown in the towel yet. At the age of 55, the singer is experiencing a myriad of debilitating symptoms, each one preventing her from performing the way she used to. Although things seem bleak, she hopes there is a way she can keep doing what she loves.

A source close to Dion has spoken to People, saying the singer's disease is progressively getting worse. She has employed a talented team of medical professionals to help her find ways to keep performing. However, at the moment, she is struggling to move freely and is in "a lot of pain."

Luckily, Dion is facing this latest obstacle with her three sons, Nelson Angélil, Eddy Angélil, and René-Charles Angélil, by her side.

Most recently, the singer had to cancel her 2023-24 tour after she had to call off numerous shows. Dion explained that she would be refunding fans for their tickets, but she didn't want to keep fans waiting and then disappoint them. She also expressed how sad she is that she won't be able to do the tour. She noted:

"It's not fair to you [the fans] to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it's best that we cancel everything now until I'm really ready to be back on stage again."

Dion's medical treatments have reportedly cost her so much the singer had to sell her $30 million home in Las Vegas and has since moved back to her house in Canada. Although she's hopeful for a solution that would keep her performing, Dion's condition is incurable, and the musician will be battling SPS for the rest of her life.

How Celine Dion Faced the Tragedies in Her Life

Dion's disease is certainly nothing to scoff at, but this isn't the first time the singer has faced adversity and kept a cool head while staring impossible circumstances right in the eye. Now, with her SPS progressing by the day, she's once more putting on a brave face and taking things as they come.

Like his parents, René-Charles is pursuing a career in music.

Luckily, Dion is facing this latest obstacle with her three sons, Nelson Angélil, Eddy Angélil, and René-Charles Angélil, by her side. She feels fortunate to have her kids with her since she had a particularly tough time falling pregnant. Before she had her boys, Dion and her husband, René Angelil, had to resort to alternative methods.

After six years of trying to have their first child, the couple tried IVF, which gave them their firstborn. After having René-Charles, the couple tragically suffered a miscarriage. Luckily, in 2010, they had their twins, Nelson and Eddy, who they named after Nelson Mandela and Eddy Marnay.

Six years after the birth of their twins, Dion lost two of the people she loved most in life. In 2016, the singer lost her beloved husband, manager, and mentor, Angélil. The love of her life passed away due to throat cancer. He was first diagnosed with cancer in 1999, but the disease returned after a successful operation.

Although she missed her husband terribly, Dion remarked that she didn't enjoy seeing him suffer near the end. So, she made peace with his death, knowing his pain had passed. She also commented that she was trying to be strong for her children to show them that life still continued even after a tragedy.

Only two days after Angélil passed away, Dion's brother also died of brain, throat, and tongue cancer. Although she lost two people who had meant the world to her, Dion tried to look at things in a positive light, commenting a few days after the tragic loss, "René escorted my brother. It was perfect."

All about Celine Dion's Three Sons

With Dion's husband gone and her physical condition degrading, the musician is glad to have her three boys by her side. She mentioned that René-Charles, Nelson, and Eddy have been hugely supportive while she dealt with her increasingly stiff muscles, standing by her when she had to make bitter decisions like canceling her tour.

Dion had her oldest son, René-Charles, on January 25, 2001, in Loxahatchee, Florida. After a long time of trying to have a baby and a round of IVF treatments, the pair were over the moon to finally welcome René-Charles into the world. Dion opened up about her oldest, referring to him as a "miracle child."

Like his parents, René-Charles is pursuing a career in music and debuted his first two songs on Soundcloud in May 2018. The songs rocketed to the top of the site's charts, and Dion was astounded to see her son pursuing the thing she also has a passion for. It was the first time he had told his mom about his love of music.

After more IVF treatments and one miscarriage, Dion and Angélil welcomed their twin boys, Eddy and Nelson. Angélil opened up about the pregnancy, noting that the twins came as a welcome surprise. They were hoping for one healthy baby, but now they had two on the way. The twins were born on October 23, 2010, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Sadly, Eddy and Nelson were only five years old when their father passed away, and Dion revealed she used the Disney film "Up" to explain his death. She threw them a balloon-themed party ahead of his funeral and used a balloon analogy to explain the concept. The proud mom also noted that her twins gave her comfort after René's death.
