Mariska Hargitay Shows ‘Cute’ Ankles after Surviving Multiple Leg Injuries with Spouse by Her Side

In July 2021, it was revealed that Mariska Hargitay was finally back working weeks after she shared that she'd broken her ankle. The then 57-year-old star was seen on the set of "Law & Order: SVU."

However, she wasn't as agile. The actress used crutches while sporting an orthopedic air cast on her right foot.

Foot issues have plagued the celebrity for quite some time, and on June 16, 2023, she took to her Instagram account to share the latest news about her struggles.

Alongside an image that showed off her bare feet and ankles, Mariska revealed how "grateful" she was for "the little things" like "healing, self-care, and baby steps." The actress concluded her message with one of her father, Mickey Hargitay's stassertions:

"'If you take care of the little things, the big things take care of themselves.'"

During her 2021 sighting, she smiled as she balanced herself on her cushioned crutches after exiting a black car. Mariska, dressed in a floral dress complemented by a red ribbon-like belt around her waist, suffered several injuries on her feet over the years.

How Mariska Ended Up with Foot Issues?

The first time Mariska revealed that she'd broken her ankle was on July 6, 2021, via an Instagram post. In her post, she showed off her right ankle, covered in bandages, while wearing a Birkenstock sandal on her other foot.

The star jokingly called it her "summer look." She had broken her ankle after tripping and falling on a rain-soaked pavement on July 2, 2021, after leaving an event. The celebrity had been in the Hamptons for the Cinema Society screening of "Black Widow."

After an ambulance was called, other guests like Brooke Shields rushed to help Mariska outside the Regal UA East Hampton Cinema. The Southampton Hospital treated her, and she failed to attend the afterparty held at her East Hampton home.

A source claimed the star was only at the hospital for a few hours after rushing to leave the screening so she could welcome guests at her home. Her husband, Peter Hermann, was by her side in the ambulance, and when her leg was bandaged at the hospital.

The celebrity only returned home after midnight, as the party was winding down. The insider revealed how Hermann's wife was selfless, being more worried about things going well and people enjoying themselves at the party.

The injury wasn't the first she experienced because, in May 2020, she suffered from a hairline fracture in her ankle and a broken knee.

She later assured her fans that she was healing daily and excited to return to work keeping New York City's streets safe, a reference to her SVU role as Detective Olivia Benson.

Fans who replied to the star's June 2023 post showed their support, with one person agreeing with Mariska's father's statement before sharing how happy they were that she was taking care of herself.

How Did Mariska Meet and Fall in Love with Peter?

In early 2002, Hermann was cast as defense attorney Trevor Langan on season 3 of "Law & Order: SVU." Years later, when Drew Barrymore interviewed Mariska, she recalled her initial thought when seeing him for the first time.

The actress recalled wondering "who the Clark Gable Superman look-a-like man was who she needed to marry that same day!" The star was "nervous" when she was introduced to Hermann and tried joking, hoping to break the ice but failed.

The actress shared how they knew Andrew was theirs because everything about him felt "divinely right." The star said having two babies simultaneously could be "chaotic." Still, the pair bonded immediately, and Amaya placed a protective arm around Andrew when they lay together in the crib.
