She confessed, however, that these relationships were a form of escapism. "I was an abused child. So I used intimacy and relationships because I wasn't receiving love and empowerment. from my house," she explained.

Princess Nokia added that she never had "formative, parent love," and one way or another, that led to her growing up too quickly. "I really wish that I would've started dating much further along in life. I want my childhood back, I want those sleepovers, I want that wholesomeness," she lamented.

Princess Nokia's Dating Advice Emphasizes Openness

Princess Nokia once said that nothing about her past experiences made her feel embarrassed or ashamed. Hence, she found being "very honest" with a romantic partner relatively easy. For the musician, openness (like that of relationship guru Niecy Nash) lays the foundation for the relationship.

It's how she sees if she and a potential lover are compatible or share the same values, which is her preference. She feels that being with someone who is "passionate and wacky, and somewhat complicated" and shares a lifestyle similar to hers reduces the possibility of conflict.

In a more humorous setting, on Elle's "Rap Therapy" series, the musician shared some relationship advice with a young woman named Ariana. When Ariana confessed to struggling to maintain a relationship for over a week, Princess Nokia responded, "Girl, you and me both!"
