How Did James Go Through 'Trial & Error' to Be the Best Dad for Josh?

It took James only 12 days to tie the knot with Jane after meeting her for the first time in October 1966. Although the "Capricorn One" actor had seen her several times because they worked in the same studio, he had never spoken to her.

The couple met for the first time when James' friend picked him up at the airport, and they headed towards Jane's house. His friend had asked her if she would mind having an extra guest, but she said she wouldn't. Their first unplanned meeting took place at Jane's house.

Soon after tying the knot, the couple was all set to welcome their baby, Josh. They wanted to hire a nurse to help them look after their newborn, but things didn't go as planned.

It turned out that the nurse had to attend a funeral the day Jane and her baby were discharged from the hospital. As a result, the couple couldn't bring the nurse home with them. They had to care for little Josh on their own.

Having no experience in looking after babies, James found it difficult to care for Josh. "It was trial and error there for a while, but we got along fine," the actor said.

Besides helping his wife look after the baby, James enjoyed cooking mouth-watering dishes. She admitted liking Italian food after tasting the dishes he cooked. While Jane described him as a calm man, James said:

"I'm the fireplace-and-slippers hearth-and-home type."

The couple cared for Josh and soon welcomed another child, Jess Brolin. Josh grew up in Paso Robles, California, but their financial situation was not too good.

The following year, James met his now-wife, Barbra Streisand, and tied the knot with her two years later. Marrying James meant the "Funny Girl" actress had to welcome his adult kids into her life, and she did it happily.

Streisand was nothing like the evil stepmothers portrayed in movies. She shares a close bond with her stepson, Josh, and is even friends with his wife and children.
