Mary Steenburgen Looks ‘Gorgeous’ at 70 — Her Husband of 27 Years Tells Her She’s Beautiful ‘Every Single Day’
- Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen almost never became a couple because they shared some doubts about getting into a relationship.
- However, when the actors eventually married, Danson revealed that he finally knew what love was and gushed over his wife.
- The two stars now live a quiet life where they focus on their children and grandchildren.
Mary Steenburgen first met her husband, Ted Danson, in 1983 when he auditioned for the role of her spouse in the movie "Cross Creek." However, he failed to land the part, and despite his disappointment, he managed to win Steenburgen's heart later on.
The pair couldn't pursue a relationship at the time because they were both married to other people, and Danson admitted he was quite a mess back then. Steenburgen also believed it just wasn't their moment.

However, in 1993, when both were single and had sworn off dating, they were cast together in "Pontiac Moon." The "Mr. Mayor" star had just finalized his divorce from his second wife, Casey Coates—with whom he shares daughters Katrina and Kate—and had recently left his relationship with Whoopi Goldberg.
Steenburgen had also divorced Malcolm McDowell and was focused on raising their children, Lilly and Charlie. Danson recalled how he and the actress both believed they couldn't date, with him thinking:
"I'm not relationship material."
The "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" star seemed to think the same about Danson as she initially thought he appeared complicated. However, the duo felt an attraction they couldn't deny, though Steenburgen wasn't ready for a relationship.
The pair kept working together and started becoming closer as friends. At one point, the actor planned a trip to Mendocino, California, where he and Steenburgen went on a canoe trip and enjoyed a picnic. That outing confirmed their feelings for each other.
Danson described the trip as "very magical" and confessed that they came back smitten with each other. The couple have now been married for 27 years and going strong, and the actor is still in awe of his wife's good looks.

The house is almost 4,000 square feet, boasting 3.75 bathrooms and three bedrooms. The couple didn't reveal which one of their homes they quarantined in during the pandemic, but in June 2019, they sold their Ojai, Califonia home.
