The northeast of New York City was faced with unexpected flooding that led to the death of one woman, Pamela Nugent. The lost life came from Hudson Valley, one of the places that were significantly impacted.

Pamela's family home was surrounded by water, and many community members tried their best to rescue her and the dog she tried to save.

However, the floods did not only damage the Nugent's family home; the heavy rainfalls ruined roadways, overflowed rivers, and had many lives rescued by boats. The floods reportedly had more than 13 million Americans on flood watch.

The storm started on Sunday and continued into Monday, and by then, a small town northeast of New York, Stormville, was already flooded with more than 8 inches (about 20 cm) of rain. The heavy showers and stormy weather caused about 1000 flight delays and cancellations.

Pamela's Father Tried to Save His Daughter.

Ed Nugent, the father of the deceased 43-year-old, confessed that his daughter had just moved down the road from him. However, the dream of living closer to her family was taken by the tragic floodings.

Ed said he kept shouting, asking Pamela to get back into the house, but as she grabbed her dog and tried to cross the road, she was taken by a big wave of water in front of her father's and fiancé Rob's eyes.

Ed was able to save his daughter's fiancé but never got to Pamela. The distraught father said it all happened quickly. "Two seconds, she was gone. She tried to grab the car, but she couldn't. She tried to grab some bushes, but she couldn't. Went over the hill. The dog that's on the porch there. She went with her," he recalled.

The father risked his life, hoping he would be able to get both Rob and Pamela out. "Rob went to his car, he came out of my house and tried to cross the street. He went down. I came flying out of the house," he explained:

"I’m pretty agile, so I took three jumps and got across. Dove down to the bank there. Hung on to the telephone and grabbed Rob and pulled him off the road."

Pamela's neighbors are also heartbroken by her death. She reportedly loved her new home in Fort Montgomery, but now the family must cancel their wedding preparations and start planning a funeral.

One government official Kathy Hochul explained that the aftermath of the flash flood required a lot of work, as about 5,500 homes were still out of power on Monday. However, the Orange and Ontario counties are still under a state of emergency.
