Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein Calls Co-star Phil Dunster 'Boyfriend' in 'Hat Trick' Emmy Appreciation Post
Brett Goldstein and Phil Dunster showed mutual appreciation for each other in hilarious ways as they marked their nominations in the same category at this year's Emmy Awards.
"What an incredible list to be on and, at long last, it is wonderful to see my fit boyfriend and extraordinary talent [Phil Dunster] be added to that list," Brett Goldstein wrote in part about his third consecutive nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series, of which he won two so far.
Dunster took a similar flirty tone in his post on social media, calling Goldstein his "hunk of a castmate." This is his first nomination for playing the obnoxious soccer player Jamie Tartt in "Ted Lasso."
Firmly secure in their sexuality, they have both been in relationships with women, this is not the first time Dunster has shown his love for Goldstein, who portrays his professional and romantic rival, Roy Kent, on the show.
In the third season of the Apple TV+ hit the hostility between the two begins to thaw. It was a "joy" for Dunster to see his character experiencing some growth. "And being able to do that with Brett was so good," he told CinemaBlend in May 2023:
"Not just because I love him, like a deep, deep love, [I] romantically love him. It was so helpful that he knows this show intimately. He's a writer on it, he is a story exec on it."
He said in another interview that he finds it very hard not to laugh in Brett Goldstein's face when they are filming the Jason Sudeikis-created show that also co-stars Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple.
Phil Dunster clarified that he is not laughing at his co-star but with him. "He's one of my best mates, and going away on a work holiday felt like it was kind of cheating," he said of filming scenes in Amsterdam.
