Ncuti Gatwa is widely known for his role in "Sex Education," but the talented actor has appeared in other on-screen productions. Still, "Sex Education" remains his most controversial role, especially since he came from a religious family.

His father, with a Ph.D. in theology, doesn't talk much about him being on the show but remains supportive of Gatwa's career. Knowing his parents have seen "Sex Education" feels uncomfortable for Gatwa since he had r-rated scenes.

The show was undoubtedly colorful and creative, so much so that Gatwa sometimes found difficulty delivering what was expected. He said:

"It was very hard; it was such a big show. When you're telling stories that haven't been seen before, there's always a battle as to how to tell them. It wasn't always joyous."

As "Sex Education" ends, more opportunities are in store for the actor. He has already lent his talent in the productions "Barbie," "Doctor Who," "The Outsiders," and "Horrible Histories: The Movie."

'Barbie'

When Gatwa auditioned for a role in "Barbie," he didn't think he would end up as one of the many faces of Ken. His audition was held over Zoom, and at that time, he had no script or idea of the film's plot. Gatwa only knew one scene, and the Gretta Gerwig-directed movie starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Gatwa didn't get the part he originally auditioned for, but was later contacted for a different character since he left a lasting impression on the film's director, Greta Gerwig. Still, he kept doubting himself. "I'm convinced that there's something about me that just turns them off," he said.

'Doctor Who'

Ncuti Gatwa received a significant role in "Doctor Who." According to the actor, he one day told his agent that he wanted to play a character similar to the Doctor, and a week later, he got to audition for the Time Lord. Showrunner Russell T Davies was left in awe of Gatwa's audition.

In preparation, Gatwa watched every "Doctor Who' episode since its 2005 release. He ended up falling in love with it. "When you watch it, you forget all your troubles," he said. "You go to space or to another time. You have adventures."

Interestingly, Gatwa, who will take over from Jodie Whittaker, is the first colored person to land a lead role in "Doctor Who." The actor feels honored to have this opportunity as he sees the role as iconic.

'The Outsiders'

Gatwa takes on another character in "The Outsider," telling the story of a black man growing up in Scotland. Because of the racial and cultural differences, he ends up confused about his identity.

The actor shares the screen with Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock and "Strictly Come Dancing" star Clara Amfo, among many other wonderful talents.

'Horrible Histories: The Movie'

In 2019, Gatwa starred in the comedy "Horrible Histories: The Movie" alongside Sebastian Croft, Nick Frost, and Emilia Jones. The film, where he plays Timidius, focuses on a Roman teenager who upset Emperor Nero.

"Horrible Histories: The Movie" was recognized with a BAFTA Children's Award nomination in 2019 and other positive reviews by film watchers.

Since rising to fame and playing a queer role in "Sex Education," fans have wondered what Gatwa's sexual orientation is in real life. The Hollywood star has never confirmed his gender preference and remains quiet about his personal life, including his relationship status.
