- A man kicked his mother out of his wedding
- He felt that his mother had crossed the line one too many times.
- Now he wants to know if telling his mother to leave his big day was wrong.
A man made the tough decision to kick his mother out of his wedding and took his concerns to Reddit to ask his fellow users if he was wrong in doing so.
The story sadly starts with the anonymous Reddit user revealing that his first wife had died. The two dated for four years but were only married for one year before she passed.

When he shared his Reddit post, he mentioned that it had been six years since he had lost his wife. Her passing affected him and his mother as she loved her like one of her own.
As much as the man loved his late wife, he realized that he had a much stronger bond with the current woman he was married to. So much so that he said about his former wife, "I'm sure she was not the love of my life.
However, he seemed to be the only person ready to move on because his mother constantly compared his current wife, Helena, to his late wife. Helena did not fuss over the apparent comparisons because she understood how sensitive the situation was, but her husband did not like what his mother was doing to her.

Helena's husband said his mother never liked their relationship. But since Helena knew how much her mother-in-law loved her late daughter-in-law, she was willing to do everything to be accepted.
The man also wanted his wife to have a relationship with his mother, but he did not appreciate how his mother failed to accept that Helena was the true love of his life.

The tension between the mother and son grew thicker, especially when his mother constantly compared his wedding with Helena's to his previous one. The man explained that his first wedding was different because he could not afford much, but now he was financially stable and wanted to give Helena a big beautiful wedding.
Why Did He Kick His Mother Out of the Wedding?
The wedding planning only caused more fights between the mother and son. "There's a few instances before the actual wedding when I thought my mom crossed the invisible line," wrote the Reddit user.
But what truly pushed him over the edge was when she insisted he and Helena invite his ex-in-laws. The man was stern about not wanting them at his wedding because he had not spoken to them in years and thought his mother was trying to control him through his past marriage.

Lo and behold, the man's mother showed up with his ex-in-laws on his wedding day. He asked them why they were there, and they shamefully admitted that his mother had invited them and assured them it was fine for them to attend the wedding.
The man respectfully apologized for what his mother had done, confessed that he had not invited them, and asked them to forgive him for that too. However, his mother did not back down; she reasoned, "They're ''my family,'' and I had a duty toward them."
He asked them to stay for the reception to avoid any eyes, but he pulled his mother to the side and sternly said, 'You're not allowed to stay to anything. Leave; we will talk later."

"She cried and begged, but I asked her again to leave," emphasized Helena's husband. Later in the day, he saw his mother, ex-in-laws, and his father, who had already been divorced from his mother for 15 years, leave the wedding.
What Did the Commenters Have to Say?
Helena's husband wanted to know if he was wrong for asking his mother to leave his wedding after she invited his former in-laws without his permission. His post brewed a discussion among the commenters.

A few commenters thought some of the remarks he made were "callous." Although some netizens thought the statements about him loving his relationship with his current partner more than his previous one were harsh, some thought his anger was really directed at his mother.

To most users, the mother seemed to be still grieving the death of her late daughter-in-law and holding that over her son's head, even as he tried not to dwell on the sadness of losing his wife.

One other Reddit commenter added that finding a deeper connection with someone else was understandable because it did not invalidate the love shared in the previous relationship. Many commenters believed the root of the man's anger was his mother not acknowledging that he was happy and had found the right person for him.

Regarding the invitation of his late wife's parents, many netizens agreed with him not wanting to include them in his big day because he had not been married to his late wife that long, they did not have children, and they had not spoken in years.
