Lana Del Rey Spotted Working a Shift at Waffle House after Being Slammed for Weight Gain
- Lana Del Rey shocked fans when she was spotted working as a waitress.
- Lana started her career under a different name, and changing her entire brand propelled her to success.
- The singer isn't new to controversy, as years back, she faced criticism from fans.
Lana Del Rey is a hot name in the US music industry. She released her first album on January 31, 2012, at 25. The singer is known for her soaring vocals and melodies that have won her millions of fans.
However, Lana's journey to success wasn't straightforward. The singer came into the music industry as Lizzy Grant, but she wasn't successful or popular. She even released an album that sank virtually with no trace.

After her unsuccessful attempt to get into the music industry, Lizzy changed her name to Lana Del Rey and created a new image that was a hit among many people. As Lizzy, the singer was shy, but as Lana, she became bold and outspoken.
Lana became popular when her song "Video Games" went viral, which now has over 300 million views. After this song, she released other hits, such as "Blue Jeans," which also raked in millions of views. The singer's gigs likewise sold out.

Lana managed to transform herself from an unknown and unsuccessful singer to a famous and successful artist. The singer's success is reportedly attributed to her management, who chose her stage name, and her millionaire father, who funded her career.
Lizzy's unsuccessful songs, appearances, and album were scrubbed from the internet. Their existence was replaced with Lana's appearance on major talk shows, songs that topped charts, and albums that crept to top numbers on pre-sales alone.
Nowadays, Lana has taken a step back, away from the stage. She was spotted working as a waitress in a Waffle House in Alabama, serving coffee and taking orders from customers at the restaurant chain.
The singer was dressed in the company's blue uniform, with a yellow name badge on the shirt. She looked busy taking orders behind the counter and stepped away from it to wait on tables. Lana took pictures with surprised fans, who she also chatted with while working.
People also pointed out that the women Lana had mentioned were black and accused the singer of racism, noting that she wanted to profit over black outrage to sell her album.
Lana's pictures and videos working at the restaurant flocked to social media, and her fans were quick to express their surprise.
This isn't the first time Lana has been a target online, as she was once cruelly trolled by a few people defending her. She even shut down her Instagram account at one point.
Why Was Lana Del Rey Trolled?
Lana was cruelly trolled because of her weight when pictures of the singer in a bikini were shared online. The singer, who had taken a break from Twitter, was soon a trending topic when an online user shared her before and after pictures.

In the before pictures, the singer was slim, but in the after pictures, she had added a few pounds. The account that originally shared the pictures was deleted, but they have since been reshared by another Twitter account, @ChampagneCheri9.
The user who shared the pictures captioned it, "Good god, she went from being 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream into being a whole bucket, yummers." A user quote-retweeted the pictures and wrote, "Lana getting fat is still worse than 9/11."
More users trolled Lana because she added weight, with some even saying that for them to listen to her music, she would first have to lose weight. "Also Lana del Rey is my favorite artist, but that doesn't mean I have to lie because she really looks bad nowadays," another person noted.
Someone added that Lana looked like a "rubber glove full of cottage cheese." The "Summertime Sadness" singer's physique has been a target for body-shamers with cruel comments. Some of the people have even renamed her "Lana Del Taco." However, Lana's fans have stuck by her side.
One of Lana's fans doesn't care about what men have to say about the singer adding weight because Lana was still beautiful and her weight gain looked healthy, adding, "[she] still genuinely is so gorgeous makes me feel wonderfully optimistic about being a woman..!"
Lana's fans also said the comments about the singer gaining weight are often cruel. A fan noted that those comments left her in tears. Another fan said she was happy that Lana had gained weight because she claimed it meant the singer was finally off drugs and happy.
The "Young and Beautiful" singer has been trolled because of her weight gain, but in the past, she was at the center of controversy due to her statements and actions that had some of her fans criticizing her.
Why Did Lana Face Criticism from Fans in the Past?
Lana first faced criticism when she changed her stage name together with her appearance. Fans compared pictures of the singer as Lizzy and as Lana. They speculated that Lana has had collagen injections or even plastic surgery.
However, Lana dismissed these claims in an interview as she said she just looked pouty while singing and had done nothing at all to her body. Other fans criticized Lana for using sexuality to sell her music. As Lizzy, the singer, didn't sexualize her music, but when she transformed, her art was sexualized.
Critics said the singer lacked authenticity because of how she quickly changed everything about herself so that she could become loved by the masses. Later, when the likes of Cardi B and Nicki Minaj became popular for sexualizing their art, Lana said she would like to go back to singing the way she wanted without being crucified.
The singer noted that she was tired of female writers who said her songs glamorized abuse when she was just singing about the realities of many relationships, which are currently prevalently emotionally abusive.
Fans were angered by Lana's statement, which they considered anti-feminist as they argued a feminist shouldn't be singing songs that praise abuse or about being submissive in relationships. Many of her fans even described the singer as problematic and said they'd "lost respect for her."
Other fans didn't appreciate Lana naming other female artists in her statement just to make a point. They felt like the singer was pulling other female musicians into her drama. One person said Lana was mad because these singers were topping the charts, and she wasn't.
People also pointed out that the women Lana had mentioned were black and accused the singer of racism, noting that she wanted to profit over black outrage to sell her album. These people said Lana was white yet complained that feminism wasn't accommodating of her while throwing black women artists under the bus:
"The optics of Lana, a white woman, complaining about feminism lacking space for her while critiquing the acclaim allotted to several Black pop artists is mortifying."
Lana never apologized for her statements, instead, she tried to defend them and ended up losing more fans and supporters who said the singer just couldn't own up to her mistakes and learn from them.
Over the years, the singer's political takes, comments, and how she treats her fans have made her lose part of her huge fan base. With her recent appearance while working at an Alabama restaurant, the singer seems to still be making headlines even after her retirement from social media.
