- Mariska Hargitay made a rare appearance with her daughter, Amaya, at a music concert.
- The actress's journey to welcoming her almost teenage daughter was challenging.
On August 9, 2023, Mariska Hargitay uploaded several Instagram photos of her fangirling hard at a Taylor Swift concert the day before for the singer's Eras Tour. However, what caught people's attention the most was seeing the actress' daughter, Amaya, making a rare appearance at the event.
In the second last image of her post, her 12-year-old daughter was seen posing with an older woman in Los Angeles while facing the camera. The last picture showed Amaya and her mother facing away from the camera while holding hands at SoFi stadium.
Hargitay posted video footage of her and her daughter dancing to Swift's music in her Instagram Story. The star captioned the post noting how she couldn't and wouldn't stop "moving with my girl."

They felt that no love could compare to Hargitay's relationship with Amaya. Someone else thought seeing the duo together was cuteness overload, while another fan who witnessed a video of the actress swaying with her daughter to the music claimed to see the celebrity mouthing:
"Can we always be this close?"

They explained that as a mother of pre-teen children, the statement made them cry with joy and sadness "over the transience of life." The woman said the actress' words made her remember to love more fiercely.
How Did Mariska End up Adopting Amaya?
Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, adopted Amaya in 2011 and her baby brother, Andrew, six months later.
The couple had their eldest son, August, while Hargitay was 42. Following the adoptions, the "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" actress revealed how her oldest thought getting siblings was his idea.
Luckily, soon after that incident, the couple's lawyer and social worker found another possible candidate.
After all, he did demand a baby sister before Amaya arrived, and Andrew came after he asked for a baby brother. Hermann's wife admits that adoption isn't for the "faint of heart" as it has its trying moments.
The two actors wanted large families, and adoption was always part of the plan. The couple did a five-hour home visit in preparation, with several cases failing to come through, some complications, and a hopeful turn that was dashed.
Then the duo heard of a pregnant young woman having a baby girl, and they arranged to meet her not far from New York City. Hargitay thought the woman was incredible and intelligent, but after auditioning for the biological mother and receiving the baby girl, the parent took the child back after two days. The actress stated:
"It was nothing short of devastating."

Luckily, soon after that incident, the couple's lawyer and social worker found another possible candidate. The woman told them she knew the adoption was right and called Hargitay, the child's mother, which made her cry.
Hermann and his wife named their future baby Amaya which means "princess," "warrior," and "night rain." Now the multiracial family of five is living a happy and fulfilling life together, with the parents joyfully raising their brood.
