Katie McGrath's Partner: The Actress Once Noted That She Is Terrible When It Comes to Guys

Katie McGrath has rarely spoken of her dating life in her career and has guarded its privacy. However, in recent years, rumors emerged that the actress had been in a long-term relationship with one of her former "Merlin" co-stars.

After breaking into the industry in 2008 as Morgana in the fantasy series "Merlin," Katie McGrath's love life became a subject of interest. She touched on the matter in a 2011 interview, where she confirmed she was single.

When asked if she would like to be romantically involved with someone, the Irish actress said she would like to have a home in the countryside with chickens, dogs, and children. When it came to men, however, she confessed she was hopeless.

"I am terrible when it comes to guys. Inside I just see myself as this overweight tomboy with funny-colored hair and bad skin," she admitted. McGrath described herself as "really big" during her adolescence.

It wasn't until she left for college that she "started losing all the weight." She confessed she didn't know how big she was but added, "Let's just say when I stopped fitting into a size 14, I stopped counting."

McGrath opened up further, saying her appearance led her to believe she wasn't romantically attractive to her male counterparts. "I always saw myself as 'the friend' and not the one guys wanted to talk to. I was very awkward, and guys were always just my mates," she recalled.

The perspective carried over into her adult years, where she would often realize late that she was being pursued romantically. "Inwardly, I haven't changed at all, so when I talk to guys now, I treat them the same way," she shared.

"And then there's this moment when I realize, 'Oh, this isn't what I think it is, oops, how do I get out of this?" she continued. At that point, McGrath noted she had reached that age, watching — sometimes in disbelief — her friends get married. Her focus, however, was on her career.

McGrath starred in "Merlin," alongside Colin Morgan, who played the titular character. The show aired between 2008 and 2012. Years after its end, in late 2018, rumors began swirling that McGrath and Morgan had been in a long-term relationship.

"I never realized Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath had been dating since Merlin," one Twitter user wrote. Neither of the actors ever addressed the rumors, but fans remained convinced they were indeed dating.

"Dude, I just found out my #Merlin babies are paired and are dating each other ?? Oh my god, I cannot be happier [...] Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath and Bradley James and Angel Coulby ???" another Twitter user said in 2021, while another exclaimed, "You're telling me Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath have been dating this whole time??????"

Katie McGrath Once Had a Girl Crush

McGrath once revealed she had an "unbelievable girl crush" on the Fight Like Apes frontwoman Mary-Kate Geraghty. She attended one of their shows in Belfast in the late 2000s, "got really drunk," and "cornered" the singer to praise her.

"The band kept smiling at me, and I couldn't really work out why," she recalled. McGrath later discovered they thought she was actress Keira Knightley. While her love life remains under wraps, McGrath maintains her mental health while staying busy.

She is slated to appear in the 2023 mini-series, "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," as The Adjunctor, opposite Mel Gibson, Colin Woodell, and Adam Shapiro. Previously, she starred as Lena Luthor in CW's "Supergirl," opposite Melissa Benoist and Mehcad Brooks.
