Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood, known for his roles in record-breaking films like "Oppenheimer," "Sherlock Holmes," "Iron Man," and a host of other Marvel movies, and more.
Although Robert has had an impressive profile since 1970, when he got his first acting credit, the actor was also open about his struggle with drug addiction, which he could fight when he met his second wife, Susan Downey.
The "Iron Man" star has never been shy to show off his wife of almost two decades on social media. In a recent post commemorating their 18th wedding anniversary, Robert and his wife recreated a photo from their wedding day.
In the initial photo, the actor looked like he was whispering into his wife's ear while she smiled and held onto her bouquet. The recreation had a few differences. The two were not wearing their wedding outfits but kept the clothing casual.
This time, Susan was holding sunflowers instead of her white wedding flowers. However, the passion between them and the smile on Susan's face was still on par. Robert captioned the photos, "18 years, love still in bloom!!"
Robert Downey Jr. And Susan's Love Story
Robert met his wife in 2003 while they were filming "Gothika." Susan was intrigued by the actor's weirdness. She remembered their first encounter with Halle Berry and the film's director over lunch.
Everyone had ordered Japanese food, but Robert chose a bowl of oatmeal. As Susan explained, he was raving about how good oatmeal was for the body and even brought his own packets. To top it off, he started doing yoga poses, which Susan thought was "interesting but weird."
The relationship moved pretty quickly. Robert asked her to marry him only three months after they started dating. But Susan confessed that the "Oppenheimer" star was not the kind of person she thought she would date; instead, she was more worried about how reliable he would be.
The two had gotten together when Robert made headlines about his drug addiction. When they got engaged, the actor was still legally married to his first wife, Deborah Falconer, with whom he shares a son, Indio.
However, Susan agreed to his marriage proposal on the condition that they stay engaged for two years and that Robert fought his addiction. The film producer admitted that she never dealt with anyone fighting addiction. "I was incredibly ignorant of its hold on people," she said.
On the contrary, Robert thought it was good that his wife was not well informed on what addiction did to a person. He reckoned that had she seen all of the dark sides of it, they would not have come as far as they have.
The actor kept to his word, and two years later, the couple married in a Jewish ceremony in the Hamptons. In 2010, they decided to start a production company, Team Downey. Before they landed on the name, they had thought of "RoSuDo," but no one understood what it meant.

The couple tried to combine their names, Robert Susan Downey, but when they realized it was not obvious, they knew the name would not work. The inspiration behind starting a company together was simple: Susan and Robert believed making movies together should be added to the life they had already created.

When starting a family, Susan did not think it was the cards for her. She expressed that she has always been career-driven. "I didn't care about having a family or making a home. I didn't think about kids," she confessed.
However, she realized she needed to meet the right person to change her perspective. So, in 2012, the couple welcomed their first son, Exton. Then, they had their daughter, Avril, in 2014.

Indio is also a singer and guitarist for the hard rock band The Dos, which released its debut album in 2019. The actor's son celebrated his big 30th birthday, and the proud father shared a heartfelt message with a video of Indio's performances and pictures of them together.

Robert described his son as a "magical person," a "legend" that his siblings looked up to, and a "miracle" to his mother. He revealed that doctors did not think his mother would have a full-term pregnancy and give birth to a healthy baby due to her diabetes.

But the mother and son beat the odds. Robert continued to praise his son for his resilience as he watched him fight addiction and eventually had to overcome his addiction, too.
The actor proudly described his eldest son as a humble and "most dedicated" musician. "Indio Falconer Downey, I salute your soul, spirit, and wisdom. Welcome to 30," wrote Robert.
Regarding his 11-year-old son Exton, Robert shared how he and his wife decided on his name. They were inspired by his wife's great-uncle Joe, who was an unconventional person and decided to change his name to J. Exton when he was in fourth grade.
When he welcomed his daughter, the actor shared the news on Twitter. He had compared her beauty to her mother's while revealing that she had dimples like his uncle Jim.
Robert gave fans a look into fatherhood and shared a video of his 11 and 9-year-old helping him shave his head for a movie. However, fans kept referring to his children as his "boys." "Aww, so cute. You have adorable boys," commented a fan. While another said, "Let the boys have fun."
Other commenters thought the brother and sister looked "normal and healthy" and said the actor had an "adorable family." However, some people also thought Exton and Avril had their father's eyes.
