Jonnetta Patton: Usher's Mother Pursued Another Business Venture after Being His Longtime Manager
Usher's mother was by her son's side every step of the way after the R&B star's rise to fame. However, since overcoming her initial devastation when the pair parted ways professionally, Jonnetta Patton has ventured into the culinary business.
Since her son's career began, Jonnetta Patton became well-known for being his manager and overseeing his career. However, after a clashing of opinions, Usher revealed he felt it was best for him and his mother to cut ties.
Although the decision was initially difficult for Jonnetta Patton, her famous son shared that there was still love and respect between the mother-son duo. Usher's mother has since used the business savvy she inherited from her father to open new doors.

Jonnetta Patton Spotted Her Son's Talent from a Young Age
Usher's mother was born on April 6, 1957, and married his father after momentarily losing herself following her dad's death. Despite her mother's warnings, Patton married Usher's father, who she revealed had a drinking problem.
During their marriage, Patton and her ex-husband welcomed children, including their talented son, who would become a star. At the time, Patton served as the Youth Choir Director at their local church when she realized the true depths of her son's gift.
Since leaving the music and entertainment industry, Patton has used her business experience to found J's Kitchen Culinary Incubator, LLC.

"That's when I realized that he had talent," she said. According to Patton, both her and Usher's father could sing well. However, despite helping him along the way, Patton does not take credit for her son's career. She shared:
"From the beginning, what we went through...to see him on that stage and know that he did that. I had nothing to do with that at all. That was all Usher."

Jonnetta Patton and Her Son Severed Ties Professionally
After reaching stardom and solidifying himself as a singer, Usher revealed he had other aspirations he and his mother did not see eye-to-eye on. "We began to part our ways when I wanted to expand in other areas that I felt like she wasn't necessarily considerate of," the singer revealed.
Patton and those close to her admitted that the "Burn" singer's decision was a difficult pill to swallow for his mother. However, she eventually accepted, and Usher shared that his love and appreciation for his mom for how far she had gotten him still ran deep.

What Has Usher's Mother Been up to since She Stopped Being His Manager?
Since leaving the music and entertainment industry, Patton has used her business experience to found J's Kitchen Culinary Incubator, LLC. Her new business venture is a state-of-the-art kitchen facility in Atlanta to support culinary entrepreneurs.
According to Patton, she has her father to thank for her business-savvy mindset. "My business sense came from my father," she revealed. Patton's famous son also continues to make great strides in his career, as the NFL announced that Usher would be the performing act at the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show in 2024.
Usher will join other stars who have performed at the NFL Halftime Show, such as Shakira, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and more. "It's an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can't wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they've seen from me before," the singer said.
