"That's when I realized that he had talent," she said. According to Patton, both her and Usher's father could sing well. However, despite helping him along the way, Patton does not take credit for her son's career. She shared:

"From the beginning, what we went through...to see him on that stage and know that he did that. I had nothing to do with that at all. That was all Usher."

Jonnetta Patton and Her Son Severed Ties Professionally

After reaching stardom and solidifying himself as a singer, Usher revealed he had other aspirations he and his mother did not see eye-to-eye on. "We began to part our ways when I wanted to expand in other areas that I felt like she wasn't necessarily considerate of," the singer revealed.

Patton and those close to her admitted that the "Burn" singer's decision was a difficult pill to swallow for his mother. However, she eventually accepted, and Usher shared that his love and appreciation for his mom for how far she had gotten him still ran deep.

What Has Usher's Mother Been up to since She Stopped Being His Manager?

Since leaving the music and entertainment industry, Patton has used her business experience to found J's Kitchen Culinary Incubator, LLC. Her new business venture is a state-of-the-art kitchen facility in Atlanta to support culinary entrepreneurs.

According to Patton, she has her father to thank for her business-savvy mindset. "My business sense came from my father," she revealed. Patton's famous son also continues to make great strides in his career, as the NFL announced that Usher would be the performing act at the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show in 2024.

Usher will join other stars who have performed at the NFL Halftime Show, such as Shakira, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and more. "It's an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can't wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they've seen from me before," the singer said.
