Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Wife Alice Young Is ‘The Right Person’ for Him – Facts about Her

Alice Young is a computer programmer and proved her husband isn't the only genius in their relationship. The couple has celebrated over three decades of marriage, and Neil deGrasse Tyson revealed the scientific way he knew his wife was the one.

Neil deGrasse Tyson and his wife, Alice Young, met many years ago in Grad school and have since celebrated 34 years of marriage. The couple has also welcomed two beautiful children along the way.

According to Alice Young's husband, he did one thing to determine whether his wife was the right person for him, and the astrophysicist has opened up about how they have kept their successful marriage going.

Who Is Neil DeGrasse Tyson's Wife?

Before becoming a computer programmer, Alice used to work as an IT Project Manager for Bloomberg Financial Markets. According to her husband's official website, Alice and Neil live together in New York City.

Alice and her husband share their daughter, Miranda, and their son, Travis.

In 2012, her husband spoke at her former university — Rice University — and Neil later revealed that Alice was on her way to getting a Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics when they met.

How Did Alice Young and Her Husband Meet?

Alice, a Physics graduate student then, and her future husband met in a General Relativity class in Grad school. In his book, Neil revealed that Alice was unimpressed by one of his courting maneuvers during the early stages of their relationship.

However, a romance eventually blossomed, and Neil shared that he took a scientific approach to deciding whether or not Alice was the right person for him. Alice's husband shared:

"I looked at all the coordinates of what I valued in a mate, and we've been married 34 years. Once you do this, there was no one else that came close on the scale of anyone else I had dated — even historically dated."

Alice Young's Husband on How They Have Kept Their Marriage Going

In addition to ensuring they did things together, like going on walks, Alice's husband revealed that one of the secrets to their happy marriage has been creating new memories together.

"You can always be new in your marriage if you do new things," Neil advised. Alice's husband also suggested that couples travel together to create new experiences. That way, once you return home, there is something new to talk about and new to share.

Alice Young and Her Husband's Children

Alice and her husband share their daughter, Miranda, and their son, Travis. Since graduating from Harvard University with a degree in East Asian Studies, Miranda has pursued a career as an Account Executive, Data-Driven Project Manager, Curriculum Developer, and Coach.

On the other hand, Alice and her husband's son joined other relatives of celebrities on season 3 of "Claim to Fame," hosted by Kevin and Frankie Jonas, and the latter praised Alice's husband and called him his hero.

In March 2014, the family of four walked the carpet at the premiere of Fox's "Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey" a month after Alice and her husband attended the 2014 Time 100 Gala. In 2017, Alice and her husband posed for the cameras with their son at the 2017 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
