Tina Denise and Jackie Daly are her younger sisters, with whom she shares the same father. However, Gwendolyn, casually called "Gwen" by those close to her, also has another sister named Georgette Jones.

Her sister Georgette spoke about Gwendolyn in her book, "Growing Up With Tammy & George." She said that, as a child, Gwendolyn naturally directed situations. She looked after Tina and Daly when their mother traveled to Nashville, describing her older sister as a "parental figure."

She thanked her sister in the book, writing she could always bring clear perspectives. Georgette, who joked that Gwendolyn still referred to her as "Squirt," even when she was 40 and they were the same height, went on to write:

"Gwen, throughout my life you have been the 'big sister' who could look at things objectively and rationally."

Gwendolyn was also the first to be informed when their mother passed away and broke the news to two of her sisters but couldn't do so for Georgette, who was working as a nurse then, and a fellow employee told her instead.
