Sartorius confirmed he was very much alive through a Tweet he shared the same day rumors of his death started circulating. "So dead I'm dropping a Halloween song tonight," he wrote. He later went on to release the song "Planet Lonely."
Just a month before he began trending, Sartorius had launched his EP titled "Sleep When I'm Dead," which included a track bearing the same name. Notably, the song featured lyrics directly sourced from his journals.
In an interview, Sartorius provided insights into the creative process behind the project's success. The singer disclosed it was his first time doing an EP that was executive produced by someone else, and he saw it as a valuable opportunity to collaborate and craft songs that blended seamlessly.
He also said the creative process felt like a mediation, highlighting there were times when they would be barefooted and sit in a meditative position with their eyes closed.
