According to the singer, he was attracted to his partner at first glance, and the following day, they had a dinner date that paved the way for a beautiful relationship.

John described his lover as a shy and well-dressed man, and even after years together, they find reason to fall in love anew. In 2010, he shared how they keep the spark alive and happiness intact in their relationship, noting that they send each other handwritten anniversary cards professing their love every Saturday.
