Elton John & Husband David Furnish Mourn the Loss of ‘Fiercely Loyal’ Family Member: ‘Sad Farewell’

David Furnish announced the death of their "fiercely loyal and protective" 17-year-old American cocker spaniel, Marilyn, on social media on March 8, 2023. Marilyn was the partner of Elton John's dog, Arthur, and mother to the pup Isabella.

Elton John's husband wrote that the matriarch of their pets kept vigil outside their babies' nurseries when they were brought home from the hospital and traveled the world with the Furnish-Johns. A fan account extended their "sincere condolences."

Shoe designer Patrick Cox wrote, "She'll be terrorizing my bulldogs in doggie heaven!" telling the producer she was a beautiful dog. A fan kindly said that the canine had the best life with the family, adding, "Arthur was patiently waiting for her in doggie heaven."

According to some news reports, there are over 20 fur children that call the Furnish-John household home, and include dog breeds such as Irish wolfhound, Border terrier, German shepherds, and Labrador. Authur's bark was featured on the album "The Captain and the Kid."

The Furnish-John brothers have attended the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.

During the pandemic in August 2020, Elton introduced the newest members of their family on Instagram, with an image of two German shepherd puppies held on leashes by his sons. The "Circle of Life" singer tagged the pups with his and David's handles.

The couple had two sons via surrogate using the same egg donor, who Elton calls a "wonderful, kind and loving woman" and part of the family. On Christmas day, they became first-time parents of Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John.

The F-J Family was completed with the birth of Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John on January 11, 2013. Their cocker spaniel Marilyn instinctively knew the importance of their babies; David wrote in her Instagram obit, "Nobody, and I mean NOBODY who wasn't a part of the family, got near those boys."

The siblings walked onto the soccer pitch with Watford Capitan Troy Deeney before the 2019 FA Cup final against Manchester City. Elton John has long been associated with the club, with Zachary later joining the Watford Academy.

The Furnish-John brothers have attended the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party for the past few years. Last year they looked dapper in matching navy blazers with subtle but playful gold, red, and blue embroidered details.
