Bundy Proposed to Carole Ann Boone in Court
Despite being convicted of murder, that didn't stop Bundy from carrying on with his personal life. In February 1980, he proposed to Carole Ann Boone in court during the sentencing phase of his trial. The two first met in 1974 when they worked in the Washington State Office of Emergency Services in Olympia and dated before Bundy's initial arrest.
In Rule's book, she portrays Bundy's daughter as a kind and intelligent person.
Boone believed Bundy was innocent, and while testifying before a judge at his sentencing hearing, she said, "I've never seen anything in Ted that indicates any destructiveness toward people." She went on to describe Bundy as a warm, kind, and patient man.
Shortly before the jury recommended that Bundy be sentenced to death, he proposed to Boone, and they married. Boone frequently visited Bundy while he was on death row, but physical contact was not permitted.
Bundy and Boone Shared One Child
Still, Boone became pregnant in 1981 and gave birth to daughter Rose Bundy in October of the same year. Boone initially declined to reveal how it happened, saying it was no one's business. A Netflix documentary later featured an audio of her revealing how their daughter was conceived. She said:
"We kept looking out the window. There was a black guard who was really nice. After the first day, they just didn't care."
Boone eventually divorced Bundy in 1986, a few years before his execution. Following the divorce, Boone lived a private life for over three decades. According to reports, she passed away in 2018 aged 70.
Author Ann Rule, who knew the serial killer, disclosed in her book, "The Stranger Beside Me," that Bundy's daughter, now in her 40s, lives a private life. In Rule's book, she portrays Bundy's daughter as a kind and intelligent person.
Over three decades after Bundy's death, his story has been retold in crime series and documentaries. One notable example is "Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes," a Netflix documentary that debuted on January 24, 2019, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Bundy's execution.
The 2019 crime drama film, " Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile," also tells the story of Bundy. Zac Efron takes the role of the notorious serial killer, and Kaya Scodelario plays his wife, Boone.
