Following the game, he had his assistant pick up a new iPhone and prescription glasses. Two hours later, the assistant returned to find him unresponsive in the jacuzzi, leading to a call to 911.

Perry's young neighbor, who witnessed the tragic events unfold, shared his thoughts. He described how he saw "too much" and was "very sad" for his younger siblings who witnessed the incident. He expressed:

"I was very sad. At the same time, I did kind of expect it in some sense, but I didn't expect it to be so soon."
