According to reports, the police received a call in the afternoon about an unresponsive man in his 50s. When the authorities got to the scene, there was no need to call an ambulance as the "Friends" star was already deceased.

Matthew's father, John Bennett Perry, was seen arriving at his son's residency. The unexpected incident reportedly shook the distraught father. Both Matthew and his father were actors, and at some point in the actor's childhood, his father's drive to become a successful actor separated them.
A Peek into Matthew Perry’s Childhood
Before his death, Matthew left his fans with a memoir titled "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," where he opened up about his childhood.

Matthew's parents separated when he was ten years old, and he was candid about how confusing it was to see his father move on with another woman. Despite the confusion, he hoped that he would come back.
He remembered how protective his mother was about the separation. She kept his hopes up by telling him his father would be back soon and that he had just gone to work.

To the then-10-year-old Matthew, "soon" meant waiting each day, hoping his father would show up, until a day, a week, and eventually, six weeks went by without John ever coming back.

The actor admitted that he was too young to understand Canada's distance from Los Angeles and what it meant for someone to go after his dreams. But his father's departure left him fearing that his mother would also leave him.

Matthews's mother, Suzanne, worked as a press secretary for Pierre Trudeau, former prime minister of Canada. Therefore, having a father chasing his acting dreams in Los Angeles and a mother who worked for a high-profile politician meant that Matthew spent a lot of his childhood alone.
John's career in Los Angeles started picking up, and he landed a role in an advert for Old Spice. The "17 Again" actor felt that he saw his father more on screen than he did in real life.

Eventually, Matthew moved to Los Angeles to reconnect with his father and chase his own acting dreams. Fortunately, his father welcomed him with open arms and got him to go to a few AA meetings to get his life "straight."

With his father's support, the "Fools Rush In" star's life became better. He was grateful to have John as his parent and to fill in the void he had been living with for most of his life. However, he felt horrible about leaving his mother.
