Though his cause of death was not immediately confirmed, other details surrounding his death included the fact that his assistant found him unconscious in his hot tub. According to reports, Perry had sent the assistant on an errand just before he died.

When news of his passing circulated, countless tributes and statements from loved ones, co-stars, and fans were dedicated to Perry. A statement from Warner Bros. Television (the network which produced "Friends") expressed:

"Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many..."

Perry's legacy not only includes the incredible mark he left on the acting world but also the advocacy work he did concerning alcoholism, which was a cause close to his heart. In fact, in an interview months before his demise, Perry asserted that he wanted to be remembered for being able to help others who battle with the same addiction struggles he faced:

"...the dreams now—the best thing about me, bar none, is if somebody comes up to me and says, 'I can't stop drinking, can you help me?' I can say, 'Yes.' And follow up and do it. That's the best thing. And—I've said this for a long time—when I die...I want that to be the first thing that's mentioned..."

According to his memoir and other sources, Perry faced the height of his addiction while on "Friends." His fellow actor friends, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow, knew of the personal struggles he faced. In fact, Perry credited them for rallying around him in his time of need:

"They were understanding, and they were patient..."

More than just castmates, they all built long-lasting friendships and became very close-knit. Perry even went so far as to say that being a part of the show molded his life when he joined the cast at 24.

The "17 Again" star even got emotional explaining the close bond he shared with his castmates during the "Friends" reunion special. Perry's co-star and friend, LeBlanc, described him as the "class clown" who could always make everybody laugh with his jokes. Of his relationship with Perry, LeBlanc said:

Yesterday, LeBlanc broke his silence following Perry's passing. The "Lovesick" star shared a heartfelt farewell message to the man he considered his little brother on his social media account.

LeBlanc posted five pictures showing different moments shared between him and Perry during their time on "Friends." His last picture featured the entire cast sharing a sentimental hug.

His caption spoke to how much he treasures and values the times they shared and highlighted how much of an honor it was for him to work with Perry and call him a friend. In addition to expressing his love for Perry and ending the dedication with an inside joke, LeBlanc also disclosed:

"...I will always smile when I think of you and I'll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you're finally free..."

Fans shared their emotional reactions to LeBlanc's tearjerking message in the actor's comment section. Many were left heartbroken over how sentimentally special the tribute is:

"Matt, this is absolutely heartbreaking. I hope you are ok. So sorry for your loss..."

Some people were quite literally left in tears after reading LeBlanc's tribute. Of LeBlanc's caption and post, another person expressed:

"Aaand I'm crying again..."

As more continued to express their sorrow, others marveled at the very apparent close friendship that was shared between LeBlanc and Perry. One fan commented:
