Walton opened up about how her death affected him in a 2019 interview. "I drifted for upwards of three years after that. It took me a really long time to come back from it," the actor reflected.

"If it weren't for the people in my life that cared about me, that stepped in and helped me understand that life goes on, I don't know what would have happened," he continued.

Leanne Goggins' Ex-husband Played a Widower in a Series

Walton snagged the role of Wade Felton in the comedy-drama series "The Unicorn." The show followed Wade as a widower who lost his wife to cancer — leaving him as the sole caregiver for his two daughters — making his way back into the dating scene.

Speaking of playing Wade, Walton admitted the part hit close to home. "It's more me than anything else I've ever played. I just go where the material is. And when this came along, I just fell deeply in love with him and his struggles," he said.

Additionally, Walton felt "really insecure" about whether he could "pull it off" but overcame that fear. He shared that part of what helped was asking the creators to switch from filming via multiple cameras in front of a studio audience to a single camera on a sound stage.
