It has been revealed that his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play Michael. Jaafar is the son of Jermaine Jackson, the brother of the singer who was also part of the Jackson 5.

According to Jaafar's website, he initially saw a future as a golf player, but the entertainment gene seemed to be stronger. The 27-year-old was born in Encino, California, into a family of musical legends, and his musical taste shows.

His musical taste expands to an appreciation of film scores and a variety of musical icons such as Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, and more. Looking at his background, it is no surprise that Jaafar started his career when he was only 12 years old.

He is a piano player and has learned several techniques and knowledge concerning the music industry. In 2017, he made his modeling debut and performed for the first time with his father and his brother, Jermajesty, at the MAX Proms event in the Netherlands. The director of the upcoming film also had good things to say about Jaafar. Fuqua spoke of experiencing a "spiritual” connection with Jaafar, especially after witnessing how he embodied Michael and his natural relationship with the camera. "It’s incredibly exciting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life," said the renowned director.

The Jacksons' matriarch, Katherine Jackson, also expressed pride over her grandson playing her son. She expressed, "Jaafar embodies my son. It's so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers."
