My Mom Refused to See Her Long-Awaited First Grandchild upon Hearing Baby's Name
Lily is ready to introduce her newborn to her mother, but when her mom hears the baby's name, she wants nothing to do with the baby girl. What could be so horrible about the name?
Throughout my pregnancy, Dean, my husband, had a name kept for the baby girl. At first, he didn't even tell me about it, but he finally gave in when we got into the third trimester. That means the name was important to him, right? And by default, it should have been important to me, too.
But this is how we ended up changing our daughter's name.
Like many women around the world, I struggled to get pregnant. So, when the pregnancy test finally came back positive, we felt that everything we had dreamed of was finally coming to pass. Long gone were the years of infertility struggles. And I had my Mom and Dean to thank for everything. Their love and support were unreal.

Now, forward to baby girl's grand debut into the world — happy, healthy, and so pink! I had never been more in love with anything in my entire life. Of course, the first thing we did was video call my mom because she needed to see the little girl we had all been waiting for.
Mom got on the call. She ugly cried for a moment before exclaiming at how beautiful the baby was.
"She's perfect, Lily!"
Then, Dean got on the call while the nurse helped me move a bit so that I could try nursing the baby for the first time.
"Her name is Margaret," Dean said happily.
I know it's not the trendiest name, but it has grown on me, and I have come to love it.
"Why that name?" Mom asked, her tears beginning all over again. "How can you be so cruel to me?"
Then, she hung up.

There I was, trying to feed my baby but full of confusion. Dean continued to call Mom; he tried over fifteen times, and she just refused to answer. But later that night, when Dean and Margaret were asleep, mom texted me:
I'm not meeting your daughter. Especially when she's named after the woman who ruined our lives, Lily.
Who the heck is Margaret, and what did she do? I thought as I fell asleep.
We were sent home the following afternoon because everything was okay for me, and Margie had met all the criteria needed for us to be discharged. But before we got home, I asked Dean to take me to Mom's place first.

When I opened the door, I found her sitting in the living crying — her eyes were red, and there were used tissues everywhere. I remember sitting down next to her, feeling like I had just popped out a baby, my lower pelvis uncomfortable and tender.
"Tell me everything, Mom," I had told her.
Then, she let me in on the history of our lives. Turns out that the original Margaret was the woman who caused my father to abandon us and start a new life with Mistress Margaret. I knew that Mom raised me alone because my father had walked out on both of us, but I didn't know the real story behind it — I mean, I was probably six years old.
And I don't remember feeling abandoned. It was always Mom and I, and she made me feel so loved.
How on earth could Mom look at my baby and feel love for her when she was named after the woman who wrecked our family?

I remember hobbling to the door, signaling Dean to bring the baby in. Mom and I told him the story, and we decided, right then and there, to name the baby after my mother.
Jennifer Jr. — as a nod to my mom's resilience.
A few weeks later, we had a little naming reveal party at home so our family and friends could meet Jen properly.
To be honest, I think the new name suited her better, especially because she had my mother's eyes and birthmark, which was similar to my Mom's. I was worried about Dean and how he would take it — given that he was attached to the original name. But it turns out that he just liked a character from a movie. A character named Margaret.

Now, little Jen is the baby who seemed to heal family wounds I didn't know about. But I feel that a piece of the family history has been put together.
I still remember feeling devastated and confused on that night Jen was born.

Was it okay for Mom to react like that?
But anyway, Margaret, who?
Here's another story for you: Nadia has spent years battling her loss after she gave her baby up for adoption. But now, she and Aaron are ready to expand their family, and with that comes adopting a child. One night, the family had an accident. When the blood compatibility results come back, Nadia is shocked.
