Gilles became the first woman with short hair to win Miss France. She understands the beauty standards set by society, but she's happy the pageant is evolving. Although she is the first one, she believes there will be many more women to follow.

The pageant first started in 1920, and in 103 years, no one with short hair has taken the title. The first woman to win the Miss France title was Agnes Souret.

Gilles is a second-year mathematics and computer science student. Once she has graduated, she will most likely start a career in statistics. Although she knows that her profession is far from the world of beauty pageants, she has always had an interest in the competition.

She recalled watching the competition on television with her parents. "I was really interested in the world of misses from the moment I applied,” added Gilles. The future Statistician said her grandfather had been pressuring her mother to enter, so she decided to be the one to represent her family.

Gilles admitted that her time was limited since she had to split it between her studies and self care, but she felt empowered since entering the competition. She believes the pageant highlights the lives of 30, and in doing so, changes their lives.

The 2024 winner emphasized that it was not all about showcasing one's beauty, but it was about women standing up for what they believed. "It's truly something beautiful. It's not at all 'Be beautiful and shut up'! It's truly standing up for yourself in front of millions of viewers," Gilles reiterated.

There is also a lot of work that goes into training to compete in such a pageant. Gilles revealed that she practiced till the very late moment. Everything from how she positioned her arm and body mattered and needed to be perfectly angled with the camera and lighting.

As the new Miss France, Gilles is on a mission to represent women. She wants to show them that anything is possible. Looking back at her life two years ago, she said she worked at a factory and is now living the dream of being crowned Miss France.

So, she is using her life experiences to show how life can change at any point. "You must not give up; you must always aim higher," said Gilles. She plans on passing down the love of maths to many more girls to show that you do not need to be old to fall in love with numbers.

Gilles' short hair had many internet users talking. Some loved the look, while others did not. One netizen came to her defense, saying that women did not need long hair to be beautiful, and praised Gilles for her beauty.

However, other people left negative comments, calling her a "handsome boy." Others said her hands were big and she looked like an NBA player. While another commenter agreed that she looked beautiful, they thought she was too "small" for the Miss France title.

In one of her interviews, where she rocked her short black hair, Gilles confessed that when the swimming suit pictures were shared online, she was heavily body-shamed. But as soon as she saw the negative comments, she stopped engaging.

The remarks about her short hair did not bother her because she felt it was part of her physical appearance that she could change. But the comments about her body were more difficult to read because there was nothing she could do about how her body was shaped.

Regardless of people's opinions, Gilles is committed to being herself. She advocates that people do not need to mask their real selves for the sake of fitting in.
