Nicole Kidman, 56, Reveals Why She Used to Lie about Her Height – Details
Nicole Kidman addressed the reason she used to lie about her height. In her revelation, Kidman spoke about how her height caused her discomfort.
In a recent podcast interview with Kelly-Anne Taylor, Hollywood star Nicole Kidman, wife of famous musician Keith Urban, got candid about her height. When addressing the past issues she had with her height, the 5'11" movie star shared how she was teased as a young girl.
The "Just Go with It" actress admitted she would fib that she is 5'10". This is in part because of how her peers treated her at school.
After Taylor told a story about how she was bullied for her height at her all-girls school, Kidman shared the fact that kids at her school would call her "storky." Her peers would ridicule her by faecitiously asking, "How's the weather up there?" Even to this day, Kidman said that she is still constantly met with amazement over how tall she is.
The "Big Little Lies" talent then spoke about how the teasing affected her confidence and made her question how high her heels could be. The loving mom explained: "I'm always like, 'Oh, can't they make'—whenever you go on the red carpet, they send the shoes, and the shoes are always so high, and I'm like, 'Do they have a kitten heel?'"
Kidman admitted that her height still bothers her, specifically regarding facets of her career. However, she also said that there are times when she appreciates it and expressed that she is grateful and blessed to be healthy. However, she did say that she has had some physical ailments partly onset by her height, like knee problems.
In addition to her own personal struggles with her height, Kidman confirmed that other people had told her that she would never have a successful career as an actress because of her height. There was even one instance when she was auditioning for "Annie" and was almost snubbed from being let through the audition door because she was too tall.
This instance was not the last time Kidman would experience discrimination from the entertainment industry. When she reached her 40s and became a mom again, the industry's hospitality diminished. Kidman nearly retired before her mom convinced her otherwise: "I don't think you should just give up."
Regardless of the past challenges she has faced concerning her height, the 56-year-old has always overcome adversity. Though she still battles with how tall she is at times, she finds a way to own her height.
