Mariska Hargitay shared how a nun played a role in her becoming an actress. The star also spoke about other facets of her career, including her show "Law & Order," where she has starred for over two decades.

Hollywood star Mariska Hargitay recently sat down to discuss her illustrious career. While discussing how she got involved in the entertainment industry, Mariska revealed that a nun, her history teacher, encouraged her to try acting.

She was in her junior year of high school when Sister Margaret said Mariska should audition for a play. She ended up landing the lead and developing a love for the arts.

The famous doting mom and wife said of Sister Margaret's encouragement: "She wasn't an intimidating nun that you were scared of. [...] She was part of the team, and I just always felt that she really saw me and took an interest and understood me and was so loving about everything. Inclusive, kind, nurturing."

Mariska's statement comes at the same time she celebrates an incredible milestone in her career. She is officially the longest-standing character on a primetime drama show, with her role as Detective Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

The iconic series also just celebrated its 25th anniversary. Mariska said of the series' impressive longevity: "I have two diametrically opposed answers. One is I can't believe it's been 25 years. [...] And the other is, I can't see it any other way."

The "ER" talent also shared her feelings about turning 60 this year before her birthday on January 23. She said she was so excited and proud of turning 60 that she would announce it frequently. The actress also said she is stronger than she has ever been.

Last year, the iconic entertainer was honored with the Sisterhood Is Powerful Award at the Women's Media Center Awards ceremony. Legendary women Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem were the ones to bestow the honor upon the Emmy award winner.

The mother of three referenced the remarkable women and organization co-founders as her mentors and work mothers. She also spoke about the deep reverence and love she has for them.
