- Sarah Healey, a 39-year-old mother of three, tragically died while giving a eulogy at a funeral.
- The traumatic experience of watching Sarah take her last breath has been challenging for her family to process.
- The Healey family opened up about their grieving journey.
Two of Flintshire's senior county councilors opened up about the sudden death of their beloved family member, Sarah Healey. She was the daughter of councilors David and Gladys Healey and tragically lost her life at a funeral in November 2023.
Sarah was a 39-year-old mother of three whom she shared with her partner, James. The family had traveled to the South of England to attend the funeral of James's father in Slough Crematorium, and Sarah was one of the speakers.
As she was giving her eulogy, she collapsed to the ground. According to Gladys, Sarah seemed to have suffered "an attack of arrhythmia or a cardiac arrest." However, the distraught mother said her daughter never had any heart problems.
Sarah's death was a massive shock to her family. "It was a terrible blow to our family. It was a blow to her partner, who had just lost his own father. It was a blow to the three young children left behind," expressed Gladys.
The mother of three grew up in north Wales but had been living with her family in Wraysbury for the past 11 years. A month after Sarah's death, the Wraysbury Parish Council paid tribute to her.
Gladys was in awe to see the community come together to honor her daughter's life. She said she spoke in front of 350 people and encouraged them to be strong and go after what they believed in because that is what Sarah would have done.
Sarah had a thriving nursing career. She worked at the Accident and Emergency Department of Wrexham Maelor Hospital and went on to specialize in oncology and treating cancer patients. She was also working towards opening her own aesthetic clinic and had already started building an impressive clientele in Windsor.
The family of the nurse all spoke about the difficult journey of mourning her tragic death. Her sister Trisha expressed that most times, the siblings of the deceased are overlooked, and the attention is given to the parents and children. However, Trisha candidly shared, "I spoke to her daily, and we had an extremely close bond that only sisters will experience."
The sister knew that her life would never be the same without Sarah but found that having people to speak to and crying whenever she needed to helped her. "Losing my older and only sister has been the hardest thing I have ever experienced," added Trisha.

Sarah's father also opened up about his grieving journey. He confessed that he was distracting himself with his councilor commitments. David has also been reading about processing the sudden loss of a loved one and said, "I've found the book 'I wasn't ready to say goodbye' by Brook Noel and Pamela D. Blair to be a great help."
The more David navigates his grieving journey, the more he realizes that it will be different for everyone, and despite how sad and painful it has been to lose his daughter, he wants to dedicate time to honoring Sarah's memory. "One of the most valuable things I have learned is that, rather than falling into absolute despair, you can try to do something worthwhile in memory of the loved one. I think it is important advice." he expressed.
