In a video posted to TikTok last year, a mom shared various food items she feeds her toddler daughters. The video motion carousel depicted different images of junk foods allotted to different meals of the day.
She titled the post "What I Fed My Toddlers Vs What They Actually Ate." For breakfast, she served them a plate of five donuts each, of which all were consumed.

At lunchtime, the mom of two gave her daughters a plate of homemade pizza and leftover fries each, both of which remained full. At dinner, she fed them half-eaten McDonald's burgers with fries and cubes of watermelon.

When the plates were returned to her, all the watermelon—which she said her three-year-old ate more of than her sister—had been devoured. In the caption of the video, she noted that the aforementioned food was what she fed her kids on a "busy day."

The footage, which gained significant traction online, sparked many comments from social media users who vehemently disapproved of the children's diet. "Poor children 😫 they only ate the watermelon since they needed something fresh and not fried 😭," commented one user.
Another asserted, "Poor kids are gonna be overweight by the time they're 3 and 5." Someone else expressed, "Glazed donuts for breakfast is wild."
Another TikTok user who felt particularly strongly about what was going on in the video chastized, "It's ridiculous 🤷🏼♀️. That much sugar for that age, especially a 1-year-old, is so terrible. A whole donut and 4 donut holes. [What] is wrong with you[?]" A social media user who was stunned by what they saw stated, "I hope it's a joke!"

As a result of all the criticisms and judgments she received, the little girls' mom posted a series of brief videos responding to the comments made. She took the time to address some of the comments individually.
The first response post showed the mother highlighting a comment she made explaining that her daughters do not eat the food she showed every day. According to her, "They usually eat plenty of fruits & veggies!"

She expanded by saying they have vegetables daily and that she usually includes a vegetable with each breakfast and dinner despite being a bit more lenient at lunch. The mom then divulged, "This day specifically—I'm a small business owner, and I was catching up with tons of orders, so I was super busy, and I don't have a lot of help here."
A second TikTok response video showed her responding to a comment asking whether or not the food video was a joke, especially regarding the donuts. The young mom started by admitting that the amount may have been excessive. However, she then said she was not truthful about her kids having eaten all of them.

"Some of y'all in the comments act like you've never ate a [...] donut before [...] One day of junk food was not going to [harm] them," defended the mom.
In a third video, she responded to a question that asked, "Why is the one-year-old and three-year-old eating the same amounts?? The older should have more." As confirmed by the mom, that question had been asked several times.

The response post came as an addition to her already answering it in the comment section of another post. She explained that her youngest daughter tends to eat more as opposed to her three-year-old. Of her parenting and how she raises her children, she disclosed:
"I don't know everything. I'm still just learning as I go the same way that everybody else does, but I just try to give them the portions that I think they'll eat, and typically, my one-year-old just eats more than my three-year-old."

The young girls' mother also spoke about her eldest daughter simply having more of a preference for certain foods than others. She ended by stating that she does her best to feed them dishes that she knows they will most likely eat.
