Before the woman died, she had been diagnosed with cancer. On November 11, 2022, she took to TikTok to tell the story of how she found out she had cancer. She also shared her symptoms because many people have asked her that question. In the video's caption, she revealed, "My hypochondria saved me."

She narrated that in November 2021, she had noticed a lump on her neck. At the time, she had just survived COVID and was dealing with swollen lymph nodes. She thought the bump was a swollen node and did not pay so much attention to it.

Months later, in March 2022, while studying for an exam, she began rubbing her neck, an anxious habit. In this process, she realized the lump was still there. But, this time, the lump was very hard, and larger, and did not move. It also did not hurt.

It was at this moment that she realized the lump was abnormal. She had no other symptoms, and having recently done her blood work because of the COVID she suffered, she knew her blood work was okay.

She also did not feel sick. Even though she was always tired, the doctors thought her previous illness may have caused it. Since there was no way to prove the cause of tiredness, she felt it could have resulted from school stress or work.

At the same time, she detected the lump, the woman also noticed bad knots at her back, under her shoulder blades. The knots' tightness caused her to seek out back rubs and massages for relief.

They soon detected that she was dealing with a tumor. During investigations, the doctors realized it was located in her scalene muscle. When they removed the tumor, they had to remove her entire scalene muscles.

According to the woman, the tumor was a rare one. It was called Capicua transcriptional repressor (CIC)-rearranged sarcoma. She said it was so rare it had only ten recorded cases worldwide.

The woman also said she would have never noticed it if she had not been anxious and had to rub her neck. She was glad she checked it out immediately and thought having hypochondria — illness anxiety disorder — saved her.

Despite her diagnosis, she never stopped sharing her journey with her followers. In July 2022, she revealed she was cancer-free. She said, "It's been a long journey and I still have a ways to go." But, she promised to reward herself by working on her craft despite the struggle. She also couldn't thank her followers enough for their love.

In May 2023, she shared a video of a man cutting her hair. In the video, she cried as the text on the video revealed that the moment changed everything for her.

The text also had the woman baring her feelings. The message displayed was, "Lost her hair to modern medicine, dark walls she was hidden in, wish she could say it was a bold statement, the compliments would hit her different."

Although she was in tears, there were moments when she smiled as she had loved ones around her reassuring her. Sadly, in July 2023, showing off her short curly hair, she took to TikTok to inform her followers that the cancer was back.

When she posted the video, the woman said she had known for a few weeks but was processing the information. This time, the cancer was in her lungs, and she found its timing poetic because she was about to release a body of work that she had titled "Wishing I Was You."

Although the woman hoped the battle was over, that was not so. Still, she was optimistic and said, "I'm not done fighting. I'm not done being strong." She thanked everyone who had loved and supported her through the battle.

By August 2023, there was a twist to her short hair. In part of the text displayed on the screen of the video the woman shared, she wrote, "I'm in denial about battling stage IV cancer." As she passed her hand through her short hair, she could easily pull out chunks of the hair. The woman also had someone behind her holding a clipper to cut the remaining hair.

On January 7, 2024, the woman shared an update with her followers, but it was sad news. She wrote from the hospital, "hey guys. I've got the wrough news that cancer has won. I've fought hard but sarcomas are too tough. [sic]" However, she was a fighter and was not done as she had plans to showcase her latest work for her birthday.

Unfortunately, the lung cancer also stole her voice. Four days after her previous video, the woman revealed she was back at home. She stated, "I'm finally home in hospice. Don't know my timeline. Tumors tripled basically over night. Cancer makes it near impossible to talk. [sic]"

She continued, "But one thing I wanted to do before I go is put out one more song for my birthday, praying I make it to my birthday! [...] I am leaving all proceeds from it to my son who is very musically inclined, hoping to give him the boost in music he will need later in life."

Janice ended her caption by stating her pride in not having watched or read any Harry Potter works. She was unapologetic for that decision despite the popularity of J. K. Rowling's works. The Harry Potter movies feature Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Michael Gambon, Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman, and more.
