The internet is abuzz with theories questioning the authenticity of a British royal health update. Digital detectives are analyzing every pixel, suggesting cutting-edge AI might be at play concerning the Princess of Wales's latest video announcement.

In a digital era where the line between reality and artificial creation has become increasingly blurred, Princess Catherine's recent cancer diagnosis video has sparked an intense online debate. The video has drawn attention among the public not just for its content, but because it is believed by many to be manipulated by AI.

Skeptics well-versed in digital tools and mechanisms with a keen eye for detail have identified 10 signs that they believe indicate that the video was generated by AI.

These signs include eye anomalies; outfit parallels from an old video; questionable video resolution; peculiarities in her speech; the quality of her hair; inconsistencies with her ring; an unchanging background; oddities with her sweater stripes; weird movements of the bench she was sitting on, and nostril inaccuracies.

A TikTok video from Positive Predictions provided a detailed analysis of the Princess's cancer diagnosis video in which the user zoomed in on Princess Catherine's eyes and highlighted their look and unnatural behavior as a digital mistake. This observation was bolstered by the backdrop of a past video from seven years ago that showed Princess Catherine in the same ensemble she was seen wearing in the recent video.

The TikTok user suggested that AI might have used this past video as a reference to create the cancer diagnosis announcement. During his deep dive, the user went on to assert, "I truly believe [...] this is an AI video [...] her eyes are changing color."

Another closely examined detail pointed out that none of the background elements moved. This in turn indicated the possible use of a green screen and led the TikTok user to boldly claim the video was made using "probably the best AI available to humankind."

The AI discourse expanded across other social media platforms, with more users noting other signs that highlighted the use of AI, like the robotic nature of the Princess's speech and more discrepancies with the environment.

"I can say 100% this is fake [...] The background does not move even when sped up, her voice sounds like Alexa/robotic and the color grading goes up and down to give the illusion of the sun," stated a user while another wrote, "This Kate Middleton video is clearly AI but members of the public who aren’t familiar with the technology will be easily fooled [...] Not a single breeze moving a petal, leaf, or blade of grass. It’s clearly not real"

Other people brought up the fact that the video had a low-resolution quality and hinted at a potentially deliberate attempt to obscure details that might reveal its AI origins. "I think the weirdest thing about the video is the low-resolution quality which has to be on purpose. Isn’t Hi-res the default on modern cameras? I read that BBC filmed it," commented someone.

Another user pointed out, “Why does Kate Middleton’s ring disappear at 1:19 of the video?” However, a counterargument was provided by those who examined the footage more closely. They explained that a slowed-down version of the video clearly shows the Princess's ring and chalked up the absence of the ring in another frame to the fact that Princess Catherine was moving her hand quickly.

Yet still, other physical discrepancies that were not accounted for have continued to fuel much of the speculation. "Yikes…. They really messed up on Kate Middleton’s nostrils… Did they also forget the mole? Lol. Stinks of AI," expressed one observer.

Someone else reflected on Princess Catherine's striped sweater, noting, “I was looking at the playback from this video of Kate Middleton and I can’t understand how black stripes on a shirt are casting their own shadow. Anyone care to enlighten me on that one? Looks like some CGI auto shade fail. 🤔” The inexplicable movement of the bench she sat on was also a point of discussion with someone wondering, “Princess Kate’s bench mysteriously writhing …Why???”

Another user's video analysis went into further detail, criticizing the Princess's appearance as "flat," and lacking the three-dimensionality usually present in genuine footage. This user highlighted, "She doesn’t have any physical form [...] this is something which happens a lot with CGI and technology [...] like CGI in the films, you always know that these huge monsters [...] do not have any weight or mass to them and this is similar when you see Kate in this video."

He also spoke about the inconsistencies in the flora and fauna of the background as he confirmed that England has been experiencing heavy rainfall as of late which juxtaposes against the bright and sunny backdrop decorated with flowers like daffodils.

The same user also discussed the appearance of Princess Catherine's hair to great length, citing that its voluminous, healthy-looking glow does not match the narrative of her being sick with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. "In the deep fake video, she has perfect hair [...] And you’d think [...] [with all] the stress she’s been under [she] would have a lot less hair," mentioned the user.

Though still speculative in its nature, the AI discourse regarding Princess Catherine's cancer diagnosis video touches on deeper concerns about the ethical implications of AI in media. It raises critical questions about the authenticity of digital content and the potential for manipulation, highlighting a growing mistrust towards digitally produced content, even when it concerns public figures as popular and revered as the Royal Family.

Less than an hour ago, Kate Middleton turned to social media and revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer. The announcement, made through a profoundly emotional video message, has unveiled a personal health battle within the royal family, marking a rare moment of vulnerability for the British monarchy.

The diagnosis follows what was initially deemed a successful major abdominal surgery in London in January, originally reported to address a non-cancerous condition.

However, post-operative tests unexpectedly revealed the presence of cancer, prompting an immediate commencement of preventative chemotherapy treatments for the Princess.

In her video message, Kate expressed gratitude for the support and understanding from the public, the great care she received from her incredible medical team, and the global community's kindness.

The news arrives amid recent public sightings of Kate and Prince William, which showed no outward indication of the family's private struggle. Kate's candid disclosure underscores the challenges they have faced in coming to terms with the diagnosis.

This highlights the concerted effort to shield their young children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — from public scrutiny during this challenging time. The nature of Kate's cancer remains undisclosed, with Kensington Palace urging respect for the family's privacy and refraining from speculation.

In an unforeseen twist within the Royal family, Princess Catherine recently broke her silence, hours ago, after a Mother's Day photo she shared on Instagram ignited a firestorm of controversy. The first official photo post-surgery featured her and her three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis— posing for a sweet family portrait.

Her attempt to celebrate the matriarchal holiday was overshadowed by allegations of photo manipulation, leading to an unprecedented recall of the image by five of the world's leading picture agencies.

A candid statement made by Princess Catherine that was posted to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram Story, disclosed, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day. C.”

The now-infamous photograph—taken in Windsor by Prince William—was initially released with the hope of quelling rampant speculation regarding Princess Catherine's health and whereabouts, and marks her first authorized picture since Christmas.

However, instead of providing reassurance, the photo prompted Getty, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Shutterstock, and Reuters to issue a notice to halt distribution because of a belief that the photo is "manipulated."

A closer inspection of the image revealed several inconsistencies, including an alignment issue with Princess Charlotte’s left hand, which raised doubts about the photograph's authenticity. The photo—depicting a seemingly healthy and happy Princess alongside her children—was intended to reassure the public of Princess Catherine's well-being following her major abdominal surgery.

Yet, it only served to fuel further speculation on social media, with users pointing out various anomalies ranging from a missing sleeve and wrist, and Prince Louis' peculiar-looking crossed fingers to the absence of the Princess's wedding ring. Many also questioned the seasonal accuracy of the background foliage.

Critics did not hold back when it came to asserting their disbelief in the photo's legitimacy, with assertions like “This is not an authentic picture. Something is so not right,” and “Post a REAL TIME LIVE VIDEO of her!!! Stop with these fake AI photos!!!!! Either she is well or not!!! I do not truly sense she is well,” flooding the comment section of Instagram. Another user added, “Respectfully, this picture looks false."

The controversy surrounding the photo and its subsequent recall underscores the Royal family's challenging year, marked by the King's cancer diagnosis, the Princess's surgery, and the family's efforts to maintain an appearance of stability amidst personal turmoil.

Princess Catherine's statement, while seeking to clarify the situation, also highlights the delicate balance between privacy and public expectation. It also brings the role of modern technology in shaping the perception of reality to the fore.

As previously reported on March 4:

Princess of Wales was recently spotted for the first time as she recovered in private from a planned abdominal surgery. This sighting comes after more than two months of absence from the public eye.

Witnesses caught a glimpse of the princess sitting in the passenger seat of a black Audi SUV. Her mother, Carole Middleton, at the wheel, as they drove near Windsor Castle. Catherine, donning a pair of dark sunglasses that covered her eyes, was without other family members or security during this outing.

This appearance quickly became a topic of conversation on social media, where photographs of Catherine circulated, sparking various reactions. Among the comments, skepticism about the identity of the person in the photographs was rampant.

One user questioned the authenticity, stating, "That's not her. Nice try though," while another humorously suggested, "It's a wax sculpture."

Adding to the confusion, several social media users were convinced the individual in the car was Catherine's sister, Pippa Middleton, leading to comments such as "Looks like Pippa, not Catherine," "That is not Kate that is pippa [sic]," "I think that looks a bit like her sister," and "The woman in the picture has a striking resemblance to her sister. Pippa. I don't think it is Kate."

Speculation didn't stop at mistaken identity; others believed that the princess had undergone plastic surgery. Comments reflecting this theory included direct accusations, such as, "She has plastic surgery," and queries like "Did she get a facelift," and suspicions about photo manipulation, "Did you blur it so we couldn't see the bandage on her nose?"

Buckingham Palace's brief update, stating Kate would be hospitalized for approximately two weeks and wouldn't resume her duties until about Easter, did little to quell speculation. Later, the palace sought to reassure the public of her recovery progress amidst rampant online conjecture.

Given the scarcity of details on Catherine's health, speculation has run rife, with the palace's representatives addressing conspiracy theories about her whereabouts post-surgery. "Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates,” Catherine's representative revealed.
