Inside Matthew McConaughey & His Wife's Grounded Life with 3 Kids, Including Their Texas Home & RV Trailer
Matthew McConaughey lives a grounded and wholesome life with his beloved wife, Camila Alves, and their three children. In addition to their home in Texas, the couple, who just celebrated their anniversary, also have a luxurious RV trailer.
Hollywood heartthrob Matthew McConaughey, 54, is best known for his iconic performances in noteworthy films like "The Lincoln Lawyer," and "The Wolf of Wall Street." Over the years, he has established himself as a powerhouse actor in the entertainment industry with an illustrious career.

However, closer to the talented actor's heart, is his beloved family. Since 2012, the loving family man has been married to his lovely wife, Camila Alves, 41. The Hollywood couple recently celebrated 12 years together with a heartwarming post that they shared on Instagram.
In the picture, Matthew, who is dressed in cowboy attire—inclusive of a cowboy hat and denim jacket—is seen placing a sweet kiss on Camila's forehead. Making the caption short and sweet, Matthew penned, "thank you #happyanniversary."
When the lovebirds are not doting upon each other, they are busy being parents to the three beautiful children they share: Levi, Vida, and Livingston Alves McConaughey. Together with their kids, Matthew and Camila enjoy an adventure-filled life in the actor's home state of Texas.
They made the move to the state in 2014 after selling their house in California to live there full time. Earlier this year (March 2024), Camila and Matthew sat down with Southern Living to discuss their life and appreciation for West Texas.
During the interview, Camila spoke about what prompted their move to the state. She started by describing the life they previously led in California: "We were living a happy life in Malibu. We had a beautiful house that we'd built together and put a lot of love and care into. We were raising our kids there. I was growing everything in the yard. I had bees making honey," Camila reflected.
However, in addition to recognizing her husband's anchored and older ties to Texas, a family crisis spearheaded Camila and their family leaving California and going to Austin.
They were several weeks into their stay there, helping Matthew's mom and two brothers when Camila noticed that Texas was enforcing a gravitational pull upon Matthew.
According to the media outlet, Camila noticed how happy Matthew was being there: His mood improved, he lived life with more ease, and his grin widened. Driving back from visiting his mom one night, a moment when they stopped at a red light changed everything.

"You want to move here, don't you?" Matthew recalled his wife blurting out at that moment. Camila asked him that because she said that she could see "a peaceful but confident, energetic look," on Matthew's face as he gazed out at the Hill Country panorama.

"It was like one…two…three…, and you went, 'Yep,'" Camila divulged. After exchanging some adorable back-and-forth couple banter while recalling the moment, Matthew added, "As soon as I chuckled, the light turned green and we pulled out." "And then I said, 'Let's do it,'" Camilla asserted.

The couple went on to embark on their move to the Lone Star State, though it was not without its challenges at first, especially for Camila. In the same profile interview, Matthew admitted that Camilla initially struggled with the Malibu-to-Texas transition.

It was difficult at first because as far as her life in America, the beautiful Brazilian-American model had only ever lived in the glamorous cities of Los Angeles and New York when living in America. Additionally, whereas Matthew had friends in Texas, Camila did not.

Also, unlike the 41-year-old, Matthew knew the lay of the land. He was very familiar with the landscapes of Texas, both physically and culturally. However, Camila eventually fell in love with the state just as much as her husband.

"We can travel all over the world but the moment I land in Texas, the gravity just comes down, my shoulders relax, I know I'm home," expressed Camila during the interview.

In addition to their house in Texas, Camila Alves, Matthew McConaughey, and their kids have a luxury RV, which is a huge update from the trailer the Hollywood star, who came from humble beginnings, once lived in.

Speaking about that time, he mentioned, "I've always loved drivin'. Drivin' is number one, where I get some time with myself. Number two, it's the main place I catch up on music. And number three, it's the best way to see the country. [sic]"

When it comes to the luxury RV he and Camila own—modeled in true Matthew fashion and named "The Canoe"—the mobile home is slightly more luxurious than your average RV. It is complete with a personalized satellite dish and a streamlined kitchen.

Although he has settled down with his wife, with both of them choosing to live in their Texas home, they sometimes spend the weekends taking their luxury airstream trailer out on the road.

Matthew has personalized their RV to a great extent. It includes a cozy bedroom with a picturesque window so one can see whatever view is available, and it also has a shower and toilet. Adding extra flare, the vehicle comes with a barbeque attached to the back end of the trailer.

Camila and her husband sometimes embark on spur-of-the-moment adventures, driving to destinations unknown. On the other hand, there are times when the duo opts to stay at the Malibu Trailer Park, located right on the shoreline.
Before he moved into a permanent home and while he was still traveling, the actor expressed, "When you wake up in the morning, you're looking right at the ocean or wherever your backyard is that day."

These words capture the essence of Matthew: Grounded, yet free-spirited. Although he is also extremely conscious and actively works to improve what many see as a dark world, as he still believes everything is inherently good. Part of his outlook may be based on his religious belief—Christianity.
"I'm a believer. I believe in God," he once affirmed. Although the producer has established his faith, leaning into his purpose is a continuous journey. On this, he stated, "God's laying out the highways, but we each have our hand on the wheel."

Further reflecting on his place in the vast world, Matthew continued, "And we're that little individual on the planet. That smallness can make you go, 'Oh my gosh. I'm nothing. None of what I do matters."
