Alex and some of the cast, including Whoopi Goldberg, were discussing the film when the conversation veered toward nepotism (the act of those with power or influence favoring family members or close friends, etc.)

On the matter of whether or not Alex's mom practiced nepotism to get her daughter the role in the movie, Alex divulged, "No, there wasn't. I've heard you guys talk about this nepo baby stuff—I have yet to experience that [...] I auditioned like everybody else."

She also joked about how she was glad that someone important to the casting wasn't there on the day she auditioned because she didn't sound as good as the other actors when she sang.

"It was a very interesting experience and I realized that I'm not good at auditions. That's what I know. Other than that, I got the job," she concluded.
