According to his publicist, Cynthia Snyder, Wayne died on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home. The actor had been battling Alzheimer's disease for several years.

Wayne's wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, shared a heartfelt statement confirming his death. "Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's 6 years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family," said Lynn.

She also expressed gratitude to the Motion Picture and Television Home for their compassionate care. "Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many," her statement continued.

The late TV star is survived by his wife, their sons Hank (and his wife Laura) and Grady, as well as his stepmother, Janet Northrop.
