The Birmingham event came just a day after the announcement of two significant patronages for the Prince and Princess of Wales. On January 14, 2025, Prince William was officially named Patron of the College of Paramedics. The organization shared the news on its Instagram page.

That same day, it was revealed that Prince William and Princess Catherine had been named joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. This new role carries special significance for Princess Catherine, who has a personal connection to the organization following her own cancer treatment.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity shared the news on Instagram, highlighting the Princess of Wales' visit to their Chelsea hospital earlier that day.

The post emphasized her commitment to supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing.

During her visit, Princess Catherine met patients undergoing treatment and connected with staff to learn more about the advanced care offered at the facility.

In a moving Instagram post, Catherine reflected on her journey and expressed gratitude for the care she received over the past year.

"My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything... The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional."

She conveyed hope and enthusiasm for her new role, expressing her desire to support innovative research, advance clinical excellence, and prioritize the well-being of patients and their families.

Princess Catherine, 43, expressed her relief at being in remission but acknowledged the difficulties of adapting to a "new normal" following her cancer diagnosis. She concluded her message by thanking supporters and expressing hope for the year ahead.

After attending the College of Paramedics' inaugural emergency and critical care conference in Birmingham, Prince William made arrangements to meet with Aston Villa fans and even bought a round of beers during the gathering.

Steve Jones, a 56-year-old Villa supporter of 35 years, explained that the club had informed them about William's desire to meet a delegation of fans while in Birmingham. According to Jones, the Prince wanted to stay informed about all things related to Aston Villa.
